Said ran away and became a fugitive. Raouf, who had become a famous journalist, denounced Said in newspaper articles, turning public opinion against him. Said confessed what he had done to his former lover Nour [Shadia] and lived in her house. He also sought solace with a Sufi sheikh but found no relief. Although Nour tried help him, the police found his hiding place and killed him on the Mokattam Mountain during a chase.
