This is a 26" x 38" Egyptian poster designed by an unknown artist for the 1994 Lee Tamahori film Once Were Warriors based on the 1990 novel of the same title by Alan Duff, screenplay by Riwia Brown and starring Rena Owen as Beth Heke. Plot summary: The Heke family of Auckland New Zealand are descendants of Maori warriors. They are living on the fringes, subsisting on welfare in the midst of domestic violence, alcohol abuse, suicide, rape and juvenile delinquency. These problems are exacerbated by their outcast social status.
