Life without a Guitar

Life without a Guitar Czech poster (1962) - (dir: Jiri Hanibal)

This is a poster I bought from Albert McFadden about ten years ago. It is an original Czech poster for the 1962 Jiri Hanibal film Life without a Guitar [zhivot bez kytary], with story also by Jiri Hanibal, starring Jaroslav Vizner. I'm very sentimental about it, although I've never seen the film. If I imagine life without a guitar it makes me very sad, even though I'm not proud of my guitar playing. I just have to have one around.

Wrath of the Titans (2012)

This is the two-headed dragon Sam Worthington fights as Perseus in the 2012 Jonathan Liebesman film The Wrath of the Titans, which is a sequel to the story Clash of the Titans, first told on screen in the 1981 Desmond Davis film with Laurence Olivier as Zeus and Harry Hamlin as Perseus. I'm a big fan of that 1981 film and try to watch all the remakes and rereleases derived from the story. I like this one a lot too, but there are some differences worth mentioning. For some reason, the winged horse Pegasus is now black instead of white. I'm not sure that's an improvement, but the monsters are more truly monstrous than they were in the 1981 film and Rosamund Pike is a better Andromeda than Judi Bowker was because she is a real woman with a wide range of emotions, and not just a fragile frightened beauty. Rosamund stamps with her sword among the trees and rocks in her leather leggings and sandals like a regular Amazon. She also has one of the best lines in the film: "We humans hope when there's no hope, we believe when it's idiotic and sometimes we prevail."

Baby Doll Lobby Card Set (1956)

This is a lobby card set from the 1956 Elia Kazan film Baby Doll with screenplay by Tennessee Williams and performances by Karl Malden, Carroll Baker and Eli Wallach. It is my favorite lobby card set. It has everything: beautiful photography of riveting scenes from inspired performances, and simple, elegant typography.
