Deedar (1951) - (Dilip Kumar) Egyptian one-sheet

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Marcel for the 1951 Nitin Bose musical Deedar written by Azm Bazidpuri and starring Nargis as Mala. Plot summary: Shamu [Dilip Kumar] and Mala [Nargis] are childhood sweethearts who love to go riding and singing on a horse. One day Mala is injured when they are thrown from the horse; Mala's angry father banishes Shamu from the household. Shamu and his mother are obliged to move; after the death of his mother Shamu loses his sight in a sandstorm. From then on Shamu makes a livelihood as a street singer accompanying himself on a harmonium, but he never forgets Mala and always longs to be with her again.

Pictured here is a five-foot by ten-foot six-sheet Egyptian billboard poster designed by Abdel Rahman to promote the 1951 161-minute Henry Barakat black-and-white film The Count of Monte Cristo [amir al-enteqam] based on the 1844 novel by Alexandre Dumas with screenplay and adaptation by Henry Barakat, dialogue by Youssef Gohar and Youssef Esa and cinematograpny by Giulio De Luca. Plot summary: Hassan Al-Helali [Anwar Wagdi] was a noble sailor who was captured on his wedding night in a plot by his four enemies [Farid Shawqi, Seraj Munir, Mahmoud El-Meliguy, Hussein Riad] and thrown into prison without trial or accusation; he remained in prison for many years. In prison he met an old man named Sheikh Galal who had been there for nine years; Sheikh Galal told Hassan where a treasure was hidden and then died. Hassan escaped from prison and found the treasure. He then began planning his revenge against the people who put him in prison. He fell in love with a dancer named Zomorouda [Samia Gamal] who helped him get his revenge and then married him.

This is an original 17.75" x 25" Italian fotobusta for the 1972 film The Way of the Dragon written and directed by Bruce Lee and starring Bruce Lee as Tang Lung. Plot summary: Tang Lung goes to Rome to help his cousins with their restaurant business. A crime syndicate is pressuring them to sell their property but Tang Lung defends his cousins as the syndicate tries to use hired martial artists to get what it wants. The final showdown takes place in the Roman Colosseum when a martial artist named Colt [Chuck Norris] is brought in to fight Tang Lung.

This is an 18.75" x 26.5" Iranian poster for the 2002 Dariush Farhang film Yellow Rose written by Ali Khodsiani and starring Amin Hayayee as Arash. Plot summary: Davud [Bahram Radan] and Layli [Marjan Mohtasham] went north on their wedding night. On the way they met Mahshid [Hadis Folavand] and Arash [Amin Hayayee] and they traveled together. They had an accident which killed a black man; Arash and Davud threw the body into a swamp. After that Davud decided to go back, but Arash was against this. The two fought about it, but Davud did not defend himself. Layli saw this as a sign Davud was a coward and decided to leave him. To prevent this Davud told her about an incident in his life and the reason for his fear. His mother and father had had an argument in a boat and he had unwittingly thrown his father into the river, which killed him; then his mother also left him. Layli stuck by her decision to leave him.

Plot summary: Wahid the musician loves a dancer named Wela [Samia Gamal] and proposes marriage to her after her return from a business trip. However while Wela is away Wahid marries a singer named Nousa [Nour Al Hoda] as part of a ruse arranged by Nousa's uncle Ghazal, [Stephan Rosti] who wants to marry Wela.

This is a 22.5" x 30.5" French poster designed by Leo Kouper for a 1968 rerelease of the 1940 film The Great Dictator written and directed by Charles Chaplin and starring Charlie Chaplin as the dictator Adenoid Hynkel/the Jewish barber. Plot summary: Twenty years after the end of World War I Adenoid Hynkel has become dictator of the nation of Tomania. Hynkel wants to exterminate the Jews, establish a pure Aryan state and dominate the world. A Jewish barber is unaware of any of this because of war injuries, which have left him with amnesia. His old war comrade Commander Schultz [Reginald Gardiner] saves him from the persecution the other Jews are experiencing in the ghetto. The barber meets a Jewish washerwoman named Hannah, [Paulette Goddard] with whom he begins a relationship.
