La vie de chateau (1969) - (Catherine Deneuve) Egyptian one-sheet

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Ahmed Fouad for the 1966 Jean-Paul Rappeneau film La vie de chateau AKA A Matter of Resistance based on a screenplay by Jean-Paul Rappeneau with dialogue by Daniel Boulanger and starring Catherine Deneuve as Marie. Plot summary: During the war near the French coast Marie is unhappily married to a man who is not concerned about the war and unwilling to move to Paris, as Marie would like. Their chateau is shared by a German army unit, whose commander is interested in Marie. A French spy also wants her.

This is a 13" x 28" Italian locandina for the 1970 Luis Buñuel film Tristana based on the 1892 novel of the same title by Benito Pérez Galdós and starring Catherine Deneuve as Tristana. Plot summary: Don Lope [Fernando Rey] becomes the guardian of Tristana when her monther dies. Don Lope falls in love with his innocent young charge, but he tells her she is free. He is unprepared when she uses her freedom to go her own way.

This is an Egyptian rerelease poster by an unknown artist for the 1967 Luis Bunuel film Belle de Jour based on the 1928 novel of the same title by Joseph Kessel and starring Catherine Deneuve as Severine Serizy. Plot summary: Severine is married to a doctor whom she loves dearly, but she cannot be intimate with him. She becomes a prostitute while remaining chaste in her marriage.

Repulsion (1965) - (Roman Polanski) Italian Locandina

This is a 13" x 26" Italian locandina using art by Enzo Nistri for the 1965 Roman Polanski film Repulsion based on a screenplay by Roman Polanski and Gerard Brach and starring Catherine Deneuve as Carole Ledoux. Plot summary: Carol Ledoux is a quietly preoccupied Belgian manicurist living with her older sister Helen [Yvonne Furneaux] in Kensington, London. When Helen leaves Carol by herself in the apartment and goes on a two-week vacation, a very unhappy Carol locks herself in and becomes disoriented, hallucinatory and homicidal. The theme is that for Carol, lovely as she is, human sexuality is repulsive. This was Polanski's first English language film and also the first of three Polanski films known as the "Apartment Trilogy," followed by Rosemary's Baby and The Tenant.
