Plot summary: Edgar Reese [Elias Koteas] is a murderer who is executed in a gas chamber. Philadelphia detective John Hobbes, who has arrested Reese, witnesses the execution but is haunted afterwards by the suspicion that a fallen angel named Azazel is taking possession of the bodies of living people with the aim of avenging Edgar's death.
