The Kingdom of Solomon (2010) - (Amin Zendegani) Iranian one-sheet

This is a 26.5" x 38" Iranian poster designed by Mohammad Javad Ghasemi for the 2010 film The Kingdom of Solomon written and directed by Shahriar Bahrani and starring Amin Zendegani as King Solomon. This state-sponsored epic was initially serialized in Iranian theaters. It was made with CGI effects and is considered Iran's first digital film. Plot summary: This is the story of Solomon's kingdom as told in the Koran. After appointing him to guide the people to righteousness and moderation, God tells Solomon he must purge his kingdom of the devils and jinns that infest it. At the 2010 Fajr Film Festival the film won the Crystal Simorgh for Best Supporting Actor, [Mehdi Faghih] Best Makeup, [Saeid Malekan] Best Special Effects [Leo Lu] and Best Sound Mix [Kinson Tsang].

This is a 26.5" x 39" Iranian poster designed by Bateni for the 1987 film Panic written and directed by Shahriar Bahrani and starring Jafar Dehghan as Ibrahim. The story is set in the time of the Iran-Iraq war. Plot summary: The officials at the Saudi embassy give a briefcase containing confidential documents to enemy domestic agents for transport across the frontier. The briefcase falls into the hands of the police and after they break the code it becomes clear the enemy intends to bomb a border village with chemicals. A reconnaissance team is sent to Kordestan to find out what is happening, but the village is bombed anyway and a large number of its residents are killed. Enemy soldiers arrive in gas masks and clash with the reconnaissance team. Reinforcements arrive and the enemy are annihilated.

This is an 11.5" x 17" Iranian poster for the 1986 film The Passage written and directed by Shahriar Bahrani and starring Ali Shah Hatami. Plot summary: During the Iran-Iraq War a soldier named Naser along with three of his comrades-in-arms (Ahmad, Qasem and Mohammad) are sent to the front to patrol and collect information. Naser gave his wedding ring to his fiancee Atefeh, to whom he had just become engaged, just in case he didn't come back from the fighting. To conduct the mission they were planning to take a secret route shown to them by a local guide, but the guide was killed by the Iraqis and the group was obliged to use the main route for reconnaissance. The mission to blow up a logistics bridge along the passage was conducted well but Qasem and Mohammad, who were wearing Iraqi uniforms, were shot as spies. Naser and Ahmad both escaped after being tortured by two Iraqis.

This is a 27" x 38.75" Iranian poster designed by H. Sureh to promote the 2000 Shahriar Bahrani 114-minute color film Saint Mary [maryam-e moqaddas] starring Shabnam Golikhani as Mary based on a story by M.S. Bahmanpour with cinematography by Hassan Pooya. Plot summary: This is a dramatization of the coming of Christ beginning with anticipation in Herod's court, the birth of Mary and her childhood in Jerusalem. The film has no Joseph, no trip to Bethlehem to be taxed and no manger. Instead, after having her baby Mary appears in the street before the Sanhedrin of Jerusalem. They accuse her of shaming her people, but the baby Jesus in her arms speaks in her defense and tells everyone present who he is. This has a devastating effect on the priests, who had been talking about burning her as punishment for dishonoring her people.
