Marquand serialized novel Rendezvous in Tokyo, screenplay by Richard L. Breen and Walter Reisch and starring Robert Wagner as Mark Fannon. Plot summary: On a routine mission to Tokyo American intelligence agent Mark Fannon learns about a plot by communist George Underwood [Edmund O'Brien] to assassinate the American high commissioner [Larry Keating]. He foils the plot with the help of fellow agent Tony Barrett [Ken Scott] and Japan-based American airport check-in counter receptionist Tina Llewellyn [Joan Collins].
