This is a 27" x 49" Egyptian poster for the 1954 Mario Camerini film Ulysses based on a screenplay by Franco Brusati, Mario Camerini, Ennio De Concini, Hugh Gray, Ivo Perilli and Irwin Shaw and starring Kirk Douglas as Ulysses. Plot summary: The people of the ancient Greek city of Ithaca eagerly await the return of King Ulysses from the Trojan War, but some of them do not want him to return at all, especially the ones who want to marry his wife Penelope [Silvana Mangano]. Penelope remains loyal to Ulysses and believes he will return.

This is a 13" x 26" Italian locandina poster designed to promote the 1954 Richard Fleischer film Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea based on the 1870 novel of the same title by Jules Verne, screenplay by Earl Felton and starring James Mason as Captain Nemo. Plot summary: In 1868 world shipping lanes are disrupted by rumors of a giant sea monster attacking ships and the sea is no longer considered safe. The US government commissions an expedition to establish the truth about the rumored monster, which turns out to be real but something nobody expects. The film won three academy awards for Best Art Direction [John Meehan, Emile Kuri], Best Special Effects [John Hench, Joshua Meador] and Best Film Editing [Elmo Williams].

This is a 13" x 27" Australian Day Bill for the 1960 Stanley Kubrick film Spartacus based on the 1951 novel of the same title by Howard Fast, screenplay by Dalton Trumbo and starring Kirk Douglas as Spartacus. Plot summary: Sparacus is a Thracian slave who in 73 BC leads thousands of slaves in a revolt against the Roman Empire. The slave revolt is ultimately defeated but the remains of Spartacus are never found.

This is a 13.25" x 27.25" Italian locandina poster designed by Enzo Nistri for a 1975 rerelease of the 1957 John Sturges film Gunfight at the OK Corral based on a screenplay by Leon Uris and starring Burt Lancaster as Wyatt Earp. Plot summary: In 1881 in Tombstone Arizona on October 26 the Earp brothers Wyatt, Morgan and Virgil and Doc Holliday have a quick shootout with an outlaw gang known as The Cowboys, killing three of them. The reason for the confrontation was Marshal Virgil Earp's decision to enforce a city ordinance requiring that weapons be deposited in a saloon during visits to Tombstone, but beyond that was a feud that had already been been simmering between the two groups. The event was recorded in 1931 by Stuart Lake in his book Wyatt Earp: Frontier Marshal, which later became the basis for this 1957 John Sturges film.

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Wahib Fahmy for the 1980 Stanley Donen film Saturn 3 based on a story by John Barry, screenplay by Martin Amis and starring Kirk Douglas as Adam. Plot summary: Benson, [Harvey Keitel] a supervisory technician, arrives unbidden with his malicious 8-foot robot Hector at a research station on one of Saturn's asteroids, where the two lovers Adam and Alex [Farrah Fawcett] are stationed. Benson's mission is to replace one of them with the robot after it is reprogrammed.

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Sami based directly on the design for the original Italian two-sheet, for a 1987 rerelease of the 1972 Michele Lupo film A Man to Respect AKA Hearts and Minds AKA The Master Touch AKA Un uomo da respettare based on a story by Roberto Leoni and Franco Bucceri, screenplay by Nico Ducci, Michele Lupo and Mino Rolli and starring Kirk Douglas as Steve Wallace. Plot summary: Steve Wallace is a safe cracker who has just served two years in prison. Now that he's out, he's feeling pinched financially and needs to do another job, which he does with the help of his wife Anna [Florinda Bolkan] and a gymnast named Marco [Giuliano Gemma].

This is a 27" x 41" US one-sheet poster for the 1967 Andrew V. McLaglen film The Way West based on the 1949 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same title by by A.B. Guthrie, screenplay by Ben Maddow and Mitch Lindemann and starring Kirk Douglas as Senator William J. Tadlock. Plot summary: In 1843 the widower Senator Tadlock leaves Independence Missouri and heads west on the Oregon trail in a wagon train along with his son William [Stefan Arngrim] and a large group of fellow pioneers guided by Dick Summers [Robert Mitchum]. Senator Tadlock assumes leadership of the group but his harsh ways cause clashes with elements of the entourage. The Serendipity Singers sing the title song.

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Wahib Fahmy to promote a 1950s rerelease of the 1954 Richard Fleischer film Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea based on the 1870 novel of the same title by Jules Verne, screenplay by Earl Felton and starring James Mason as Captain Nemo. The poster is not dated, but it was printed between 1958-1971 during the years of Gamal Abdel Nasser's United Arab Republic. Pictured is a 24" x 33" Danish one-sheet designed by Stevenov for the 1959 John Sturges film Last Train from Gun Hill based on a story by Les Crutchfield with screenplay by James Poe and starring Kirk Douglas as Marshall Matt Morgan. Plot summary: As marshall of a western town, Matt Morgan suspects his old friend Craig Belden [Anthony Quinn] of murdering his native American wife Catherine [Ziva Rodann], but the real murderer turns out to be Belden's son Rick [Earl Holliman], and Craig Belden will not release his son to the marshall. Morgan takes a train alone to Gun Hill, where Belden rules as a powerful cattle baron. Despite opposition from almost everyone in town, Morgan arrests Rick and holds him at a hotel, vowing to put him on the last train out of Gun Hill at 9:00 that night. Craig Belden's former lover Linda [Carolyn Jones] agrees to speak to Morgan on Belden's behalf, but her allegiances have changed; she sneaks a shotgun into Morgan's room instead to help him outgun Belden.

The Final Countdown (1980) - (Kirk Douglas) Spanish one-sheet

This is a 27" x 39" Spanish poster with a design derived directly from that of the US poster for the 1980 Don Taylor film the Final Countdown based on a story by Thomas Hunter, Peter Powell, David Ambrose and Gerry Davis, screenplay by Thomas Hunter and Peter Powell and starring Kirk Douglas as Captain Matthew Yelland. Plot summary: This film was made aboard the USS Nimitz super carrier in full cooperation with the US Navy, which even hung its poster in US Navy recruiting offices soon after release. The film tells the story of the Nimitz being unexpectedly caught in a time storm and then transported back to December 6 1941, the day before the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. The first inkling that something strange has happened comes when the ship picks up Jack Benny and Roscoe on its AM radio. There is disagreement about whether the ship has really gone back in time until the Japanese fleet is found on its way to Pearl Harbor and two F-14s from the Nimitz shoot down two Japanese A6M Zeros.
