This is a 13" x 30" Australian day bill poster for the 1953 Joseph L. Mankiewicz film Julius Caesar adapted from the play by William Shakespeare with screenplay by Joseph L. Mankiewicz and starring Marlon Brando as Mark Antony. Plot summary: In 44 BC, believing his ambition will lead to Tyranny, Brutus, [James Mason] Cassius [John Gielgud] and other high-ranking Romans murder Julius Caesar [Louis Calhern]. When Marc Antony defends Caesar in his funeral oratory the Roman people turn against the conspirators and drive them out of the city. Because his earlier performances had given him a reputation as a "mumbler," Brando's casting in a role from Shakespeare was was initially seen as a mistake, but thanks to his adoption of suggestions from John Gielgud, an experienced Shakespearian actor, Brando turned in a memorable performance that established him as a versatile actor.
