The Man Who Knew More (1985) - (Morteza Ahmadi) Iranian one-sheet

This is a 27.5" x 39.25" Iranian poster designed by Heddat for the 1985 Yadollah Samadi film The Man Who Knew More written by Hassan Hedayat and Jamal Omid and starring Morteza Ahmadi. Plot summary: A young employee named Mehraban who is unhappy with his hard life meets a mysterious old man dressed in black. The old man says he will get Mehraban what he wants on the condition that he make the right use of his opportunities. Mehraban agrees. The old man leaves a newspaper with him dated three months in the future reporting the war between Iran and Iraq. Mehraban makes a lot of money by purchasing essential goods, hoarding them and then selling them later at much higher prices during the war. However he loses his fiancee and breaks with his friends. The mysterious old man appears again. He tells him he has abused his privileged opportunity and not to continue on the wrong path; on their last meeting he tells him he has become a monster and he must either to go back to his former life or die. The fear of death causes Mehraban to donate his illegitimate funds to charities and return to his honorable life.

Spectre of Scorpion (1991) - (Kazem Afrandnia) Iranian one-sheet

This is a 26.5" x 38" Iranian poster for the 1987 film Spectre of Scorpion written and directed by Kianush Ayari and starring Kazem Afrandnia. Plot summary: Mahmoud is an 8mm filmmaker who has a special affinity for 8mm film. He makes a short film called Spectre of Scorpion with the intent of making a feature length film from the screenplay, but this is prevented by a shortage of resources. Mahmoud has a friend named Hassan who makes Persian films. Their friendship becomes the basis for a story. Love for cinema and weariness of all the effort ultimately brings the story into real life. He flees with the money after robbing Mahmoud's jeweler friend. Mahmoud's brother, who is a suspect in the theft, helps Mahmoud pursue Hassan. At the end Mahmoud intends to return the jewels; he unwittingly confesses when he sees Hassan's death.

This is a 27.5" x 38.75" Iranian poster designed by Manouchehr Abdullahzadeh for the 1989 film Bashu, the Little Stranger written and directed by Bahram Bayzai and starring Susan Taslimi as Naii. Plot summary: During the Iran-Iraq war in the southern part of Iran a boy named Bashu [Adnan Afravian] loses his home and family to a bombing. He sneaks into the back of a truck and goes to sleep. When he wakes up the truck is much further north in a place where demolition is being used for road clearing. He runs away from the explosions and eventually finds himself on a farm being worked by Naii, whose husband is away. Naii gives Bashu food and water, but she finds they do not speak the same language. Naii is kind to Bashu and he tries to reciprocate by helping her. When Naii's husband [Parviz Poorhosseini] comes home he does not like having Bashu in the house. Bashu senses this and runs away; Naii finds Bashu sleeping in an outbuilding during a storm and brings him back.

This is a 13" x 19" Iranian poster designed by Heddat for the 1989 film Tooba written and directed by Khosrow Malekan and starring Parvaneh Massoumi as Tooba Kazerooni. Plot summary: Tooba Kazerooni [Parvaneh Massoumi] and her husband Khalil Asadi, a narcotics smuggler, come to Tehran from the southern part of the country. She is given a seven-year prison sentence because she has unwittingly gotten caught up in her husband's illegal activities transporting narcotics. In Tooba's absence her husband is unable to manage so he sells their three-month-old daughter Ghazal to Fereydoun Behnam, [Iraj Rad] a painter. After serving her time Tooba looks everywhere for her husband and daughter. After much effort she finds Khalil living in a basement and inquires about Ghazal. Her husband tells her Ghazal died years ago. Tooba leaves the husband in anger. The man, who has repented and changed and is living in a life crisis, accidentally causes a basement fire. Severely burned and hospitalized, he tells the truth about what happened to Ghazal and gives Tooba the address of the painter who has her. The conflicts begin here and Tooba's life enters a new crisis phase.

Pictured is a 26" x 38.5" Iranian poster designed by Heydar Rezai to promote the 1995 95-minute Homayoon As'adian color film Sunshine Man [mard-e aftabi] starring Akbar Abdi based on a screenplay by Farshid Gavaran and with cinematography by Aziz Sa'ati. The film was produced by the Farabi Film Foundation. Plot summary: The film tells the story of Hamid and Akbar, two young men working at a photography store. When the store owner dies they fear it will be sold by his wife Narges. They do not have the money to buy it themselves and when it is rumored Narges plans to marry a local grocer, they both think about marrying her. When Narges realizes this she assures the two friends they be able to continue renting the store as before. However they both go to Japan looking for work, where they become rivals again as they had done when they were both thinking of marrying Narges.
