Star and Diamond (1988) - (Soraya Ghasemi) Iranian one-sheet

This is a 23.5" x 35" Iranian poster for the 1988 Siamak Shayeghi film Star and Diamond written by Davood Moslemi and starring Soraya Ghasemi as Mostafa's mother. Plot summary: A war-weary old man [Nematollah Gorji] takes his furniture and household goods to Tehran in a pickup to give to his daughter Karimeh [Fatemah Motamed-Aria]. On the way he is killed in an enemy air strike. Mostafa, [Hamid Jebeli] the driver of the pickup truck, decides to take the old man's property to Karimeh; he brings his own mother [Soraya Ghasemi] along. In Tehran one of the old man's trunks is stolen from the back of the pickup when Mostafa leaves it overnight in a parking lot. Mostafa complains to the police and they find it with difficulty. The mother gives the trunk, which is filled with wedding garments, to Karimeh. When she realizes the girl is living alone she arranges for her and Mostafa to marry.

Cargo (1988) - (Jahangir Almasi) Iranian poster

This is a 19.5" x 27.5" Iranian poster for the 1988 Sirus Alvand film Cargo written by Gholamreza Moosavi and starring Jahangir Almasi. Plot summary: Ali Danesh, an archaeologist with the Ministry of Culture and Art, was trying to dig up a 3000-year-old collection of tremendous value. Danesh informed some newspaper journalists about the discovery. The heads of the ministry, who wanted to seize the collection, reprimanded Danesh for informing the newspapers and they took steps with some foreigners to sell the collection. On the other hand General Azadi, who was collecting ancient artifacts for his personal museum and a broker named Nosrat were knocking themselves out to acquire the collection. Azadi, who had more influence than others, took control the collection despite the efforts of Danesh, and Nosrat absconded with it to get it into General Azadi's hands with a new transaction. The general and Nosrat were making a deal but before reaching the site for the talks Nosrat told his mother where the collection was located so she could make it available to Ali Danesh in case of danger. Danesh obtained some of the items discovered and buried them to keep them out of the hands of Azadi and the brokers. Azadi, who still wanted to get the collection, knocked out Danesh and was killed by Nosrat.

The Blue-Veiled (1995) - (Ezzatolah Entezami) Iranian one-sheet

This is a 27" x 39" Iranian poster by an unnamed designer for the 1995 film The Blue-Veiled AKA The Blue Scarf written and directed by Rakhshan Bani-Etemad and starring Ezzatolah Entezami as Rasul Rahmani. Plot summary: Rasul Rahmani is an old man with a tomato farm and a sauce factory, but his wife has died and he is lonely. When he falls in love with Nobar, [Fatemah Motamed-Aria] one of the workers in his factory, he encounters friction in his family because they do not approve of his relationship with this poor woman.

Pictured is a 26" x 38.5" Iranian poster designed by Heydar Rezai to promote the 1995 95-minute Homayoon As'adian color film Sunshine Man [mard-e aftabi] starring Akbar Abdi based on a screenplay by Farshid Gavaran and with cinematography by Aziz Sa'ati. The film was produced by the Farabi Film Foundation. Plot summary: The film tells the story of Hamid and Akbar, two young men working at a photography store. When the store owner dies they fear it will be sold by his wife Narges. They do not have the money to buy it themselves and when it is rumored Narges plans to marry a local grocer, they both think about marrying her. When Narges realizes this she assures the two friends they be able to continue renting the store as before. However they both go to Japan looking for work, where they become rivals again as they had done when they were both thinking of marrying Narges.
