The Bridge on the River Kwai (R1960s) - (William Holden) Italian Locandina
This is an original 13" x 28" Italian locandina poster for a 1960s rerelease of the 1957 David Lean film The Bridge on the River Kwai based on the 1952 Pierre Boulle novel Le Pont de la Rivière Kwai, screenplay by Carl Foreman and Michael Wilson and starring William Holden as Major Shears. Plot summary: In 1943 during World War II a group of British prisoners of war is ordered by the Japanese to build a bridge for the Burma-Siam Railway. Meanwhile a British commando team is moving in with a mission to blow up the bridge. The story is fiction drawn from Pierre Boulle's wartime experience as a laborer in Singapore and Indochina. The film won seven Oscars in 1958 including Best Picture.
