The Adventures of Ismail Yasseen (1954) - (Ismail Yasseen) Egyptian film program

This is a first printing of a 8" x 11" 8-page Egyptian Arabic film program for the 1954 110-minute Youssef Maalouf black-and-white comedy The Adventures of Ismail Yasseen starring Ismail Yasseen based on a screenplay and story by Youssef Isa with cinematography by Masoud Isa. The film was distributed by Aflam Nahdet al-Sharq (Paul Moradian) 42 Sherif St. Cairo and produced by Nahdet al-Sharq Films. Plot summary: Two journalist friends were working at a news agency trying to find effective reports for publication. One of them told a girl he was in love with her. She tried to trap them for an international gang that was working to smuggle goods out of the country. The two friends discovered what the girl was doing and decided to go after the gang and expose her criminal activities to international and local authorities. The chase began but the girl decided to leave the gang and help her lover. The gang was arrested and the boy married his repentant love.

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster for the 1965 Youssef Maalouf Lebanese film The Millionairess based on a screenplay by Nihad Qali and Youssef Maalouf and starring Sabah. Plot summary: Some young people were trying to find a way to get rich quick. They found out a millionaire widow had come to town so one of them claimed to be a prince so he could marry her. Then he actually fell in love with her.

Pearl Necklace (1964) - (Sabah) Lebanese one-sheet

This is a 25.75" x 37.5" Lebanese poster for the 1964 Youssef Maalouf Syrian musical The Pearl Necklace AKA aqd al-lolo based on a story by Duraid Lahham, screenplay by Youssef Maalouf and starring Sabah as Bedour. Plot summary: Salem [Fahd Ballan] was a simple farmer who loved Bedour, a girl from his village, and wanted to marry her. There were some people who coveted his land. A message was given to him that he thought was written to his beloved but it was actually written by Ghawwar, [Duraid Lahham] who had returned from a trip with a pearl necklace. There was a quarrel between Salem and his feudal rival over the land he owned. On the wedding night Ghawwar gave Bedour the pearl necklace on Salem's behalf.

This is a 27" x 29" Egyptian one-sheet poster designed by Hassan Mazhar Gasour and Mohammad Aziz for the 1958 Youssef Maalouf film Bahbouh Effendi بحبوح افندي with screenplay and dialogue by William Basili, cinematography by Bruno Salvi and starring Ismail Yasseen as Bahbouh Effendi. Plot summary: Babouh Effendi left the country to go to Cairo with his partner in the livestock trade, the teacher Awis (Fouad Shafik). There they lived frivolously passing their time in nightclubs. They met a girl (Zahrat El-Ola) who worked in a nightclub, and they saved her from a gang. They went home with her, which caused problems for her with her neighbors, but Bahbouh married the girl the next morning after discovering that she was honorable and that she had been obliged to go to the nightclub due to circumstances beyond her control.

Dearest of the Beloved (1961) - (Soad Hosny) Egyptian one-sheet

This 35" x 45" oversize Egyptian poster was designed by Studio Adly and Mohammad Abdel Aziz to promote the 1961 Youssef Maalouf 114-minute black-and-white film Dearest of the Beloved [aaz al-habaib] starring Soad Hosny as Kawsar based on a story by Omar Gamii with screenplay by Youssef Issa, Ibrahim Aboud and Henry Barakat; cinematography was by Alvisy Orphanily. Plot summary: A pensioner named Ebrahim Effendi [Zaji Rostom] was the head of a family with a number of grown children. He was forced to hide a satchel full of narcotics on behalf of local coffee shop owner Khalifa Abdel Salam [Hassan el Baroudi] who was also a smuggler to get some extra money to cover his family expenses. When this was discovered by the police his engineer son Mokhtar [Shukry Sarhan] took responsibility for it himself to spare his mother Amina [Amina Rizk] the shock of seeing her beloved husband go to prison. Mokhtar went to prison for five years and the father died in sadness. When Mokhtar was released he was unable to find a job in Egypt so he took a job in Kuwait for a few years. The mother Amina continued living with her oldest son Abdulla [Nour El-Demerdash] and his wife Lawahez [Sherifa Maher], but she had to take a job as a maid in a hospital. Mokhtar returned looking for his mother. Abdulla suffered a burn injury, then recognized his mother working in the hospital while he was undergoing treatment. The brothers went to the hospital to bring their mother back home.

This film was directed by Youssef Maalouf with screenplay and dialogue by William Basili, cinematography by Bruno Salvi. Poster art was by Hassan Mazhar Gasour and Mohammad Aziz. Amal (1952) - (Shadia) Egyptian oversize film poster

This film was directed by Youssef Maalouf, story and screenplay by Henry Barakat, cinematography Mostafa Hassan. The poster was designed by Farag and measures 47" x 36".

The plot as summarized in the studio film program: "Hussein belonged to an old family in Alexandria and went to Cairo now and then. He knew the dancer Soheir, loved her and married her without telling his family, in order not to anger them. He chose a house for her in Cairo and made a habit of visiting her there from day to day. After months passed Soheir gave birth to a child named 'Widad.' When Hussein learned about this he went quickly from Alexandria to witness the birth, which was difficult in a way. After he was assured of the health of mother and child he arranged to return to Alexandria and to explain the matter to his family. He believed it would be easy to persuade his father to accept Soheir into the family, since he was his only son and because his father would be sympathetic to the little granddaughter. However fate was unkind to the wife and her daughter. Hussein's automobile turned over in a horrific accident. As a result he was taken to the hospital and there his uncle came to see him, since the father was bedridden. Hussein told his uncle about the secret marriage and then died. The uncle, named Amr, saw what was coming, because with the death of Hussein he would be the sole heir to his brother's enormous fortune were it not for the unexpected marriage. He therefore decided to make plans to make himself the sole heir of the enormous wealth; he was was encouraged by his wife Doria to carry out this evil plan, and the child Amal became an orphan. He turned her over to the costodian of the estate. The years went by and Amal became a lively, vigorous girl, but she lived like a stranger in her own house, an abject person in her own land. Was she destined to know her origins? Was she destined to win her beloved? You will find out in the film."
