This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster made by an unknown designer to
promote the 1974 Mohamed Tayseer Aboud film Nights that Will Never
Return [layali lan ta'oud] starring Nour El-Sherif as Hussein with
screenplay and dialogue by Mohamed Osman and Ahmed Abdel Wahab and
cinematography Mohamed Emara. Plot summary: Mona [Nahed Sherif] tried
to rescue Laila [Bussy] from the wealthy Redwan, [Salah Nazmi] who was
also her husband. She also tried to free her from the clutches of
Hussein, a man of low moral principles. However Hussein threatened to
reveal Mona's secrets to her wealthy husband. Hussein took Laila to
his home and tried to assault her, putting her in a state of
psychological torment. After her husband was killed in a traffic
accident Mona went to Alexandria and fell in love with Adel [Mohammad
Al-Araby].

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian one-sheet poster for the 1971 Henry
Barakat 92-minute color film Love and Position [al-khayt
al-rafi'] based on story and dialogue by Ihsan Abd al-Qudus,
screenplay by Youssef Francis and starring Faten Hamama as Mona. Plot
summary: Mona was a poor girl who had a job as a low-level bank
employee and supported her family. Under pressure from her father's
illness and urging from her mother to increase her income, she formed
a relationship with an elderly wealthy lover. An engineer friend
named Adel [Mahmoud Yassine] who also worked at the company owned by
her lover Abdo [Salah Nazmi] told her he loved her. By this time Mona
was no longer a poor girl. She responded emotionally as a prosperous
woman who was in a position to be her new lover's patron and guide.
Mona persuaded Adel to quit his job with Abdo and start an independent
company with support from his mentor Hosny [Imad Hamdi]. Although
Love and Position is the film's official English title, the
Arabic title literally means The Slender Thread; the tag line
at the top of the poster, quoting the original story by Ihsan Abdel
Qudus, translates as "There is a slender thread between love and the
instinct to acquire."

film Ruffians [al-awghad] starring Farouk Al-Fichawy based on
story, screenplay and dialogue by Ahmed Al-Nehas with cinematography
by Mohamed Taher. Plot summary: Mahmoud [Farouk Al-Fichawy] is a taxi
driver married to Hosnia [Bussy]. They have a happy life together,
but Mahmoud is accused of hitting a boy named Medhat [Wael Nour] and stealing
20000 pounds from him. Mahmoud goes to see Medhat at the hospital to
persuade him to tell the truth, but he fails. He gets into his taxi
with some of Medhat's friends and the taxi crashes and catches fire in
a remote location while Mahmoud is trying to get confessions from
them. Mahmoud hides in graveyards and disguises himself. He goes to
the hospital to get the names of the boys from Medhat, who dies while
struggling with him. While Mahmoud is chasing one of the offenders,
the offender falls from a balcony before making a confession. A
police inspector named Kamal [Mohi Ismail] chases him as he is
following another collaborator named Mostafa [Abdalla Mahmoud], and catches both of
them. Thus Mostafa had lost the 20000 pounds among strangers and
colluded with his friends in accusing Mahmoud, fearing his father's
punishment.

1982 105-minute Nader Galal color film Mountain Tough Guy
[futuwwet al-gabal] starring Farid Shawqi with story, screenplay and
dialogue by Abdel Hai Adib based on the Eugene O'Neil play Desire
under the Elms with cinematography by Ibrahim Saleh. Plot
summary: The wealthy Hassan was unable to get close to the dancer
Aziza, who rejected him, but Hassan asked her father for hand and her
father agreed because there was money involved and he needed some
money. This disrupted the plans of Sekina, the widow of Hassan's
brother, who had been hoping to marry Hassan. Meanwhile Sekina's son
Omar was in love with Aziza and he promised to marry her somehow.
They kept meeting even though Omar was torn between loyalty to his
uncle who had educated him and his love for Aziza. Aziza asked Hassan
for a divorce, because he had promied he would give her a divorce
after she had a child, but he refused to keep his promise. She
confessed to him that she was in love with Omar, but when Hassan
learned this he decided to kill Omar. When Aziza tried to save Omar
she killed her husband accidentally. Omar was angered by this and
killed her. Then the police came and arrested Omar.

1963 95-minute black-and-white Hassan Reda film Fire in My Heart
starring Mariam Fakhr Eddine with story and dialogue by Mahrous
Al-Garehi and cinematography by Kamal Korayem. Plot Summary:
Dr. Shawqi attended a surgery conference in Alexandria where he gave
an important talk. His daughter Nadia was proud of him. Shawqi
celebrated the occasion with his colleagues at a nightclub. At the
nightclub he saw his former wife Laila, the mother of his
daughter. When he approached her she ran away and was hit by an
automobile. He then took her to a hospital and they operated on her.
He sent her flowers continuously. He had met her 15 years earlier at
a train station, when she was running a piano school He lived with her
in Aswan where they were blessed with Nadia. He forced his wife to
plead with the king and his creditors to postpone their debts, she had
to give piano lessons secretly to Aida, the daughter of Alia Hanem and
he was able to pay the debts. However Aida had a brother who told his
colleagues that Laila was his mistress and began wooing her with words
of love. His mother learned about what her son was doing, apologized
to Laila and sent her a gift for her wedding anniversary. Dr. Shawqi
heard some of the talk about his wife straying, divorced her and told
his daughter she had died. Then he asked her to forgive him and
return to her former life for the sake of his daughter, but Laila did
not agree easily, especially since Youssra was helping her while she
was alone. Then Laila finally agreed to go back home and in front of
her daughter she became the wife of the father. Nadia objected to
this marriage and indeed she ran away from home. She went to her
mother's grave which she was accustomed to visiting and started
crying. No one but Youssra was able to restore her smile with a magic
trick. She promised to draw her a picture of her mother for her
birthday, since Nadia did not have any pictures of her mother. Laila
had completely forgotten about her daughter Nadia so she decided to
leave home forever. Youssra gave Nadia the picture of her mother,
which resembled the wife of her father, and she immediately understood
the truth.
