Plot summary: Captain Demas Harrod and Army Scout Sol Rogers [Harve Presnell] compete for the love of Widow Lou Woddard [Senta Berger] while they also deal with worries about indian fighting and tensions with Army high command. As the film begins raw recruits line up in civilian clothing to meet their commanders prior to the start of prelimary training as cavalry troopers in a unit modeled after George Armstrong Custer's 7th Cavalry Regiment. In short order the green recruits are ushered into a concerted army campaign against battle-hardened Sioux warriors; their job is to force all the Sioux onto reservations.
