Pictured is a 12" x 15" original year Egyptian production still with Shadia as Bolbola and Kamal Al-Shennawi as Hussein from the 1952 119-minute Mohamed Abdel Gawad black-and-white film The Unlucky One [alil ol-bakht] starring Shadia as Bolbola based on story and dialogue by Zoheir Bakir with cinematography by Very Varkash. Plot summary: Hussein [Kamal Al-Shennawi], the son of Sheikh Abdel Rahman, went to Alexandria to study. There he met a singer and dancer named Bolbola [Shadia]. He fell in love with her and was about to marry her. Bolbola's cousin Elham [Zomorda] met Hussein during a dance and later contrived to meet with him privately, where she discouraged him from marrying Bolbola because she was a girl with a past. She told him some disturbing lies about Bolbola, so for the moment Hussein gave up on her. A little while later Hussein's father lost his wealth and died and Elham became enamored of Hussein's cousin Monir [Mahmoud El-Meliguy]. She failed with this love, which caused her to collapse psychologically. She was taken to a mental hospital and Hussein had no choice but to leave Alexandria for Sudan to forget his pain. Bolbola was shocked by Hussein's trip and drowned herself. Hussein returned to Egypt after a few years with a great longing to see Bolbola. He was heartbroken when he learned she had died; then he met Bolbola's daughter [Shadia] and congratulated her on her engagement when he was told about it.

Abu Dahab (1954) - (Hoda Soltan) Egyptian poster

This is a 33.5" x 45" Egyptian poster designed by Hassan Mazhar Gasour for the 1954 Helmy Rafla film Abu Dahab based on story and screenplay by Zoheir Bakir, dialogue by El Sayed Bedeir and starring Hoda Soltan. Plot summary: Hassan Bar'i [Zaki al-Harami] was the gangleader in a narcotics smuggling and distribution company operating behind a front company for the distribution of medical supplies. He met Amina Hassan [Qowat al-Qoloub], got her pregnant and then refused to marry her, so she tried to shoot him. However Sabiet al-Atara [Mahmoud El-Meliguy] killed him instead. Sabiet nominated his colleague Abu Dahab [Farid Shawqi] to replace Bar'i but he refused to do it and recommened al-Akta', [Mohamed Sabih] one of al-'Atara's backers, to run the election; they made arrangements for al-Atara to win. However the arrangements failed and and Abu Dahab won. Abu Dahab and al-Atara were outwardly friends but they competed for the love of the singer Ehsan [Hoda Soltan], who preferred and eventually married Abu Dahab. Abu Dahab was then reported, arrested for smuggling and given a seven-year prison sentence.

Life and Hope (1961)

Life and Hope [hayat wa amal] (1961) - (Imane) Egyptian film poster

This is a picture of a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Mohammad Aziz to promote the 1961 95-minute Zoheir Bakir black-and-white film Life and Hope [hayat wa amal] starring Imane based on story and screenplay by Zoheir Bakir with dialogue by Adly Nour and cinematography by Ali Hassan. Plot summary: The famous soccer player Kamal married Salwa, the daughter of an industrialist, while at the same time her cousin was wanting to marry her. The two lived happily, then Kamal went abroad to play in a tournament. The plane crashed and everyone was killed except Kamal, who landed on the coast of Lebanon. A Lebanese girl picked him up, took him to her family and discovered he had lost his memory. She took care of him, and in his new identity he fell in love with her. Then they married. Back in Egypt after Salwa learned he had died she agreed to a paper marriage to her cousin. The years passed and Kamal became a success. He went to Egypt with his second wife to to sign a contract for a special deal in the textile business. Salwa saw him there and tried to tell him the truth, but his Lebanese wife kept a watch on this. Kamal didn't return to his original identity until he had been injured in an automobile accident. Then the Lebanese wife went back to her country after deciding to sacrifice her husband, and Kamal went back to Salwa.

Shown here are a pair of two-piece promotional posters for the 1956 Hussein Fawzi 120-minute black-and-white film Delight of My Eyes starring Naima Akef based on a story by Zoheir Bakir, with screenplay and dialogue by Zoheir Bakir and Hussein Fawzi and cinematography by Mohamed Abdel Azim. Plot Summary: The show dancer Nour Ol-Oyoun worked at the Al-Kawakeb theater managed by Hanafi, who at the same time was the boss of a counterfeiting gang. Hanafi fell in love with Nour Ol-Oyoun, spent lavishly on her and offered her marriage, but the girl loved her neighbor the musician Adel who sang with her in the same group, and they were a successful performing pair. Hanafi was extremely jealous and tried to dispense with Adel so he could marry Nour Ol-Oyoun. He devised a plan in which Adel was accused of murdering one of the musicians and was arrested. However Nour Ol-Oyoun extracted a confession of the crime from Hanafi after making him believe she loved him and then Hanafi was arrested. Adel was released from prison and married Nour Ol-Oyoun.
