film contains three stories written by Ahmed Mazhar and starring
Mervat Amin. In one of the stories Layla is a Bedouin girl from a
delta tribe who falls in love with an outsider named Rashwan [Ahmed
Mazhar]. Her tribe will not allow her to marry Rashwan; it requires
her to marry her cousin instead.

Ashraf Fahmy film The Homeless based on a story by Naguib
Mahfouz, screenplay by Ahmed Saleh and starring Naglaa Fathy as Laila.
Laila was a successful attorney married to a wealthy contractor named
Fathy [Mahmoud Yassine]. They were entirely different culturally. He
was ignorant whereas she was a hard worker in a high social position.
She was constrained in her life with him and withdrew from him after
failing to improve his social worth. Fathy took up with a woman with
a bad reputation named Sausan [Nabila Ebeid]. Laila learned about his
relationship with her and asked him for a divorce, which she got.
Laila defended a woman in a case similar to the one in her own life.
The person she was defending killed her husband after discovering he
had been unfaithful to her, even though he had lifted her out of
poverty and married her, and this is what had happened to Laila.
During a visit to Sausan Fathy suddenly had a severe heart attack.
Sausan contacted Laila to tell her about his illness. Laila felt
regret about the way she had treated him and asked him to forgive her,
but he died in Sausan's home as a result of the heart attack.

film When the Wives Are Away AKA endma teghayeb
al-zawgat based on story, screenplay and dialogue by Fares Yewakim
and starring Duraid Lahham as Ghawar. Plot summary: Ghawar had two
jobs. During the day he was a museum guide and at night he was a
sculptor. He lived with his friend Hosny [Nohad Qali]. Both of them
had wives who were constantly away from home. A gang was planning to
steal a small statue from the museum where Ghawar was working. The
gang gave two beautiful girls the job of doing the theft. The girls
rented an apartment across the hall from Ghawar and Hosny; the one
named Susie [Imane] pretended by turns to be in love with both of
them. The girls then induced Ghawar to help them steal the statue and
take them to the airport. They were arrested when they got there
along with their gang.

AKA sha'ban taht al-sefr starring Adel Imam as Shaaban based on story,
screenplay and dialogue by Samir Abdelazim with cinematography by Said
Al-Shiemy. Plot summary: Shaaban is a poor worker who loves his
colleague Zeinab [Essad Youniss], but is unable to provide her with an
apartment. He tries to get a loan of 1000 pounds for this purpose
from the wealthy al-Ghatrifi Bey [Imad Hamdi] but is refused. When
al-Ghatrifi dies shortly thereafter his relatives try to take his
wealth but are unable to do so legally, so they talk Shaaban into
impersonating al-Ghatrifi's son with forged papers so he can get the
the money from the government. He agrees to this but insists on being
paid half the total inheritance of 6.5 million pounds.

Wahab and starring 26-year-old Abdel Halim Hafez (1929-1977) as
Yehia. Plot summary: A wealthy man married a woman who had divorced an
irresponsible alcoholic painter [Mahmoud El-Meliguy]. The wealthy man
educated her two sons, one of whom was from another husband, and the
boys grew up together like twins. Yehia, the son of the painter,
loved Samia [Imane] but his brother made trouble for him and Samia
turned away from him. They quarreled at a party when he was quite
drunk and then he got in his car and killed a pedestrian. At his
trial he confessed the truth. This caused tension in the family but
when he returned to his father the painter, the father took
responsibility for the first time; he had a reconciliation with his
wife and his son when he saw the love between mother and son and the
son's confession of the truth. The film includes the hit

Aziz to promote the 1961 95-minute Zoheir Bakir black-and-white
film Life and Hope [hayat wa amal] starring Imane based on
story and screenplay by Zoheir Bakir with dialogue by Adly Nour and
cinematography by Ali Hassan. Plot summary: The famous soccer player
Kamal married Salwa, the daughter of an industrialist, while at the
same time her cousin was wanting to marry her. The two lived happily,
then Kamal went abroad to play in a tournament. The plane crashed and
everyone was killed except Kamal, who landed on the coast of Lebanon.
A Lebanese girl picked him up, took him to her family and discovered
he had lost his memory. She took care of him, and in his new identity
he fell in love with her. Then they married. Back in Egypt after
Salwa learned he had died she agreed to a paper marriage to her
cousin. The years passed and Kamal became a success. He went to
Egypt with his second wife to to sign a contract for a special deal in
the textile business. Salwa saw him there and tried to tell him the
truth, but his Lebanese wife kept a watch on this. Kamal didn't
return to his original identity until he had been injured in an
automobile accident. Then the Lebanese wife went back to her country after
deciding to sacrifice her husband, and Kamal went back to Salwa.

This is an Egyptian promotional poster designed by Abdel Rahman for
the 1958 Kamal El Sheikh film Merchants of Death [toggar
al-mawt] with screenplay and dialogue by Aly Al-Zerkany and
cinematography by Abdelhalim Nasr. Plot summary: Dr. Abbas [Mahmoud
El-Meliguy] was stripped of all humanity. He would commit insurance
fraud with victims, get rid of them and then share the payments with
the beneficiaries. He had agents who hunted for victims and then got
rid of them for him. Morad [Farid Shawqi] happened to be doing the
same kind of work Abbas was doing. Circumstances had forced him to embezzle
300 pounds from some funds entrusted to him, and he spent it all on
his mother's illness. Then he tried to recover what he had lost at
the gambling table, but ended up losing twice the amount he owed. He
threatened Abbas with a pistol to try to get enough to cover the
amount he had embezzled, but Abbas turned the tables on him and did
not give him anything. They then agreed Morad would marry and insure
his wife's life for 20000 pounds. Then they would dispose of the wife
and divide the the money. Abbas tempted Morad with a lot of money
that would be enough to pay his debt, and he gave him the dowry and
enough money to pay for the marriage. Morad accepted the deal and
married the daughter of a colleague who had died. She was a naive
girl named Layla, [Imane] and they had a lovely month together. Then
came the time for her to die as agreed, but Morad felt he was too weak
to kill his wife. Instead of helping Morad get rid of Layla, Abbas
went to the police and asked them to save her. The effort to save the
wife succeeded and the gang and its members fell into the hands of the
police.

Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. Plot summary: Jaber [Nour
El-Sherif] was a rich businessman who lived alone in his villa after
leaving his wife, a long time after he had been injured in the 1967
war. Hala [Madiha Kamel] was now living in a villa with her husband
Hussein [Hussein El-Sherbini]. Jaber learned her address and bought
the villa next door to her so he could be close to her with his dreams
and old memories. He invited her to visit him but she refused because
she wanted him out of her life, which had become stable. A secret
relationship developed between Hussein and the wife of Hosan, [Nabil
al-Dessouki] who was living at the villa. Hosan watched his wife and
confirmed her relationship with Hussein, then he killed her. Hussein
had to run away with his wife Hala. Jaber heard about this and that
Hussein and Hala had left the villa, so he killed himself with Hosan's
rifle.
