Always in My Heart (1945) - (Dir: Salah Abouseif) Egyptian one-sheet
This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Fathy al-Khadri for the 1945 Salah Abouseif film Always in My Heart starring Aqila Rateb as Seniyya. This film is an adaptation of the 1940 Mervyn LeRoy film Waterloo Bridge starring Robert Taylor and Vivien Leigh. Like the prototype, this film portrays a tragic heroine who falls in love with a sailor, but unlike the prototype, in this Egyptian variation, an important early effort by the great realist/socialist director Salah Abouseif, the heroine is an orphan rather than a ballerina. The themes of despair, prostitution and separated lovers are common to both.
