The Mole People (1956) - (John Agar) Belgian poster

This is a 14" x 21.25" Belgian hand litho film poster using a design by Joseph Smith for the 1956 Virgil Vogel film The Mole People starring John Agar as Dr. Roger Bentley. Plot summary: Deep in the earth high on a mountain in Mesopotamia lives a race of Sumerian albinos in a huge underground city, who keep mutant humanoid mole men as slaves growing mushrooms for them. The ancestors of this albino race moved underground in ancient times to escape floods. When archaeologists Dr. Roger Bentley and Dr. Jud Bellamin [Hugh Beaumont] inadvertently find the city, led to the site by a piece of statuary that was part of an earthquake landslide, they discover that both the albinos and their mutant slaves are weakened by the light of a flashlight as a result of having lived underground for such a long time. According to Wikipedia the film contains a number of incorrect representations of Sumerian, Babylonian and Egyptian history, especially in its images of ancient civilizations and gods.

Cast and crew: John Agar, Laszlo Gorog, Joseph Smith, Cynthia Patrick, Virgil Vogel, Hugh Beaumont, Alan Napier, Nestor Paiva, Phil Chambers, Rodd Redwing, Robin Hughes, Frank Baxter
