Shaffner film Planet of the Apes based on the 1963 Pierre Boulle novel, screenplay by Michael Wilson and Rod Serling and starring Charlton Heston as George Taylor. Plot summary: In the distant future an American spacecraft crashes on a planet where the dominant species is a bizarre movie-studio breed of hybrid talking ape; these apes treat the humans living on their planet as livestock.
