Half a Million (1985) - (dir: Mohamed Khan) Egyptian one-sheet

This is a 27" x 38.5" poster for the 1985 Mohamed Khan film Half a Million written by Bachir El Dik and Mohamed Khan and starring Mahmoud Abdel Aziz as Youssef. Plot Summary: Serag [Yehia El-Fakharany] cashed a check for a half million pounds at the Transfer Bank company with his girlfriend Kawsar. The employee Youssef and the thief Rafai [Saeed Saleh] wanted to get the bag with the money in it. They grabbed the bag and took it to a deserted location but they found it had been emptied of cash. They agreed to look for the original bag. Serag killed Kawsar. Then he lived in a hotel with the cash. They sent a girl to him to take the money from him. There was a confrontation and they all died. Youssef found the case containing the half million.

Husband on Call (1985) - (Adel Imam) Egyptian one-sheet

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Hassan Mazhar Gasour for the 1985 Adel Sadiq film Husband on Call AKA [zawg taht al-talab based on story, screenplay and dialogue by Helmy Salem and starring Adel Imam as Mamdouh. Plot summary: Mamdouh is recruited by a broker [Fouad El-Mohandes] to act as a temporary husband. He is not comfortable doing this at first, but he plays the part for three different women. In the final episode the wealthy Naeem [Mohamed Reda] decides to remarry his divorced wife Nahed [Laila Eloui]. Nahed decides to teach Naeem a lesson; she makes a secret arrangement with Mamdouh, who is as usual being paid handsomely to make the remarriage possible by acting as an interim husband. Nahed thinks her arrangement with Mamdouh will make Naeem worry about losing her.

This is a 27" x 39" Lebanese poster designed by Dar Hani and Gasour for the 1976 Hassan Al Imam film Amar al-Zaman starring Naglaa Fathy as Amar al-Zaman. Plot summary: Amar al-Zaman was an innocent, naive girl who left her home town of al-Mansoura to look for work in Cairo. Someone tried to rape her when she arrived in Cairo but she was rescued by an acquaintance named Soltan [Sa'eed Saleh] who worked as a magician in a cabaret. He got her a job in the cabaret but she failed as a waitress because she was clumsy. A carnival puppeteer and former ballet dancer named Mohsen [Mustafa Fahmy] fell in love with her. Mohsen was obliged to work in cabarets because of a war injury and doubted Amar al-Zaman cared for him, but in fact she loved him too.

This is a 27" x 38.5" Egyptian poster designed by the Sign Agency to promote the 2007 121-minute Youssef Chahine and Khaled Youssef color film Is it Chaos? [hiyya fawda?] starring Khaled Saleh based on screenplay and dialogue by Nasser Abdel-Rahmane with cinematography by Ramses Marzouk. Plot summary: This film is set in the midst of social unrest in Cairo, where the endemic police corruption is addressed by focusing on a corrupt officer named Hatem [Khaled Saleh] who becomes a law unto himself and controls everyone except the woman named Nour [Menna Shalabi] for whom he has a passionate desire but cannot win.

This film, which among other things represents Chahine's mixed feelings about the United States, won 6 awards at the Egyptian Film Society Festival, including Best Director, Best Makeup, Best Poster, Best Coming Actor (Ahmed Yehia), Best Actress (Yousra El Lozy), and Best Actor (Mahmoud Hemeda). It was also voted best film of the year 2004 in a readers poll conducted by the newspaper Al-Ahram.

Plot Summary from IMDB: "Egyptian film director Yehia encounters his first love Ginger as he was being celebrated in New York. Back then they were 19 years old. The American Dream was the thing of the 20th century. Yehia, the boy from Alexandria, and Ginger, the American gal, were students at Pasadena Playhouse.40 years later, they are back together but the world has changed and the American Dream is no longer what it used to be. Yehia finds out that he had begotten an American child, a boy.
