and starring Soad Hosny as Zubaida. Plot summary: This film is a
remake of the 1986 Houssam El-Din Mustafa epic film The
Racketeers [al-harafish]. In the year 1886 Farag Al-Gebali
[Mahmoud Abdel Aziz] worked as a wagon driver to support his mother.
He was married to Zeinab [Soad Hosny]. His brother Gaber [Abdel Aziz
Makhyoun] worked as a blacksmith and married the poor girl Zubeida
[Sanaa Younes] after the death of the thug who had raped her during a
brawl among the neighborhood gangs. The people of the neighborhood
appointed Farag as their main tough guy but he snubbed them after his
marriage to a wealthy woman, [Youssra] moving into her mansion and
running her agency. The nile subsided, the rains did not come, famine
began, the people became poor and the merchants played their games
because they feared their stocks would be raided when the people
became hungrier and prices went up. Farag exploited the famine in
Cairo by hoarding grain. He broke all his old promises and made a
pact with the rich that the tough guy had to side with the nobility.
Zubaida led the racketeers against Farag who was killed, and appointed
her husband Gaber as the new tough guy, but Gaber refused and advised
them to rely on themselves. The revolution became collective with
Zubaida's help.

Anise for the 1982 Houssam El-Din Mustafa film The Balah Agency
written by Naguib Mahfouz and starring Nadia El Guindy as Nematollah.
Plot summary: Nematollah lived at the Balah Agency. She had married
most of the merchants and used her relationship with the important
employee Amgad, [Ahmed Louxor] who helped her learn the secrets of
bargaining. She did not hesitate to kill her competitors. Abdollah
[Mahmoud Yassine] came to the agency and went to work for Nematollah.
She liked him, married him and made him the boss of the agency in
charge of her affairs. This angered her former husband Abdoun
[Mahmoud Abdel Aziz] who had gone to work for her after his
bankruptcy. Abdollah discovered the truth about Nematollah and her
crimes. He left her, met Amgad's daughter Mervat, [Samia Al-Alfy]
married her and established a special agency with Amgad's help.
Nematollah tried to bring Abdollah back but he refused. She took
revenge against him by arranging to kill Amgad so no one would help
him when she got her assistants to steal Amgad's goods. Abdollah
thought of returning to her and asked her to confess to her crimes.
The police came and arrested Namatollah. Abdoun pick up an axe to
kill Abdollah with it out of revenge but Nematollah sacrificed herself
for him and met her demise.
This is a 27" x 38.5" poster for the 1985 Mohamed Khan film Half a
Million written by Bachir El Dik and Mohamed Khan and starring
Mahmoud Abdel Aziz as Youssef. Plot Summary: Serag [Yehia
El-Fakharany] cashed a check for a half million pounds at the Transfer
Bank company with his girlfriend Kawsar. The employee Youssef and the
thief Rafai [Saeed Saleh] wanted to get the bag with the money in it.
They grabbed the bag and took it to a deserted location but they found
it had been emptied of cash. They agreed to look for the original
bag. Serag killed Kawsar. Then he lived in a hotel with the cash.
They sent a girl to him to take the money from him. There was a
confrontation and they all died. Youssef found the case containing
the half million.

Kabil] married Soad despite strong family opposition and the two of
them went to Syria where Soad's aunt was living. Rafat died after a
critical illness and Soad worked to finance the education of her
daughter Sahar [Hayat Kandeel]. This reinforced the bond of love
between them. Sahar fell in love with their neighbor Walid [Mahmoud
Abdel Aziz] and they made plans to marry. Soad became ill but hid it
from her daughter. Sahar went to Cairo to live with her rich aunt
Dowlat [Leila Fawzi]. A physician decided Soad needed surgery. When
Dowlat heard about this she asked Sahar to marry a wealthy boy named
Adham to get the money to pay for Soad's operation. After objecting
strenuously, Sahar finally agreed for her mother's sake and told Walid
about her situation. Soad became upset when she heard what was
happening and flew to Egypt, where she had a confrontation with
Dowlat; then Dowlat regretted interfering and gave the money to Soad.
Sahar went back to Walid in Syria. Happy ending!

place to live and allowed her to use his spare room. She did not tell
him she was married. One of Salama's friends named Kamel [Ezzat El
Alaili] took a liking to Lulu. Salama noticed this and suggested that
he tell her about his feelings. Salama's friend Shahab [Adel Imam] also
had strong feelings for Lulu, which were not reciprocated. Everyone
was looking for Lulu in Alexandria; when her husband found out she was
in Cairo he and his brothers went looking for her. When he discovered
she was living in a man's house he divorced her.

her mother's husband, while Elham [Youssra] was driven there by
poverty. Men of all social levels frequented the hotel, such as Abdel
Aziz [Ahmed Zaki], the university professor of philosophy and his
friend Morad, Abdel Hafiz Basha, Abdel Aziz's uncle and a candidate
for parliament who attacked prostitution in campaign speeches, even
though it made him happy to hear the prostitutes insult him. It also
made him happy to be able to drop his guard with them. Saleh tried to
dominate Samiha but he was content with Hosnia, who loved him.

film Shafiqa and Metwali starring Soad Hosny based on a story by
Shawqi Abdel Hakim with screenplay and dialogue by Salah Jahine and
cinematography by Abdelhalim and Mohsen Nasr. Plot summary: This film
is director Aly Badrakhan's revised and very popular version of the
timeless Egyptian tale of an honor killing in which a prostitute named
Shafiqa [Soad Hosny] is murdered by her brother Metwali [Ahmed Zaki]
for dishonoring his family. The story is set in the 19th Century
during the construction of the Suez Canal [1859-1869] when Metwali is
pressed into forced labor for the project leaving Shafiqa to the
depredations of the lascivious male inhabitants of her village. In
the Badrakhan version Shafiqa is shot by one of her lovers named
Effendia [Gamil Ratib] to prevent her revealing secrets she has
learned about his business dealings, just as the returning Metwali is
about to stab her with his sword. Badrakhan's story, unlike the
original moral drama, does not provide narrative support for the
practice of honor killing. It makes a point of showing that the men
in Shafiqa's life are just as guilty as she is in different ways and
that ethical failings are distributed throughout society.

with screenplay and dialogue by Ahmed Saleh and cinematography by
Wahid Farid. Plot summary: A young woman named Amal [Naglaa Fathy]
was injured in an accident with an automobile driven by a rich man
named Adel, [Mahmoud Abdel Aziz] who took responsibility for her
treatment. Adel arranged an apartment for Amal in one of his own
buildings. Amal then realized Adel wanted to satisfy his desires with
her, but she was not interested in an illegitimate ralationship. Adel
loved Amal so he stopped womanizing and married her. Adel lived
without working, relying on revenues from the buildings and factories
he owned. He refused to restart a factory he had inherited because it
reminded him of the tragic death of his father, who had been
accidentally killed when he was a child. This had happened when his
father was in a factory and a heavy tool fell on his head while he was
tampering with some buttons. Amal felt her husband needed her to help
him unravel a psychological complex. She talked him into restarting
the factory and he became a new person.

After Gamal (Mahmoud Abdel Aziz) failed with his studies he worked as
a musician in a wedding band. His brother Salah (Yehia El-Fakharany)
tried to get him to stop using narcotics and gave him a harmless
substitute made in a lab. He advised him to use it and give it to his
friends for the protection of their health. Gamal gave the synthetic
material to a drug dealer. The drug dealer gave it to the gang leader
(Fouad Khalil), who liked it and added some of the narcotic material
to it. He sold the compound on the market, which reduced the demand
for narcotics; then he asked Gamal to supply the quantities needed to
meet the market need. He convinced him of the need to exploit the
situation, especially since the compound just provided drug abusers
with the illusion of a high. Gamal decided to record a vocal music
tape. Salah discoverd the gang was mixing his compound with the
narcotic material and decided to stop supplying them, but the gang
kidnapped him and injected him with morphine until he became an addict
and had to prepare the goods for them. The music cassette Gamal
recorded was a hit.

[Naglaa Fathy] took up residence in a room in the home of Zenouba
[Zixi Mustafa]. Two other residents of the same house, Adel and Nour
[Hussein Fahmy], tried to get close to Layla. Layla worked in the
service of the crazy rich lady Fahima and won her friendship and
confidence, even though the woman mistreated her and enjoyed it. The
neighborhood leader Haj Hassan objected to Layla's presence in the
house but Salah [Mahmoud Abdel Aziz] accepted her and brought her back
to the house, even though she was suffering from a critical illness
that required a surgical operation. Nour, Salah, Adel and Zenouba
raised the money for the operation, which was a success.

This film is based on the novel al-Malek al-Hazin [The Sad King] by Aslan. Plot summary: In the al-Kitkat neighborhood the blind Sheikh Hosni (Mahmoud Abdel Aziz) seemed to be the overseer of the affairs of the people and the pulse of their real concerns even though he had lost his sight, his wife and his job. He lived with his aged mother (Amina Rizk) and his good-for-nothing son (Sherif Mounir) without abandoning hope, smiles or laughter. At night it was his hobby to sing at drug-smoking gatherings to forget the gloomy reality since the sale of his home. Hosni's son Youssef did not find a job after his graduation from the university and he also failed to find work abroad. His interest in his neighbor the divorcee Fatima (Aida Reyad) was due to the affliction with Hosni's incapacity. When someone in the neighborhood died Sheikh Hosni was summoned for the mourning. When the microphone was left on after readings from the Koran Sheikh Hosni found out about some of the scandals among the people of al-Kitkat, such as the cuckolding by the teacher Haram (Nagah El-Mogui) of his sick friend with his pretty wife, Rawayeh (Jihan Nasr) leaving her husband the insensitive jeweler and even the special relationship with Rawayeh's mother and his son's relationship with Fatima!
