First Love (1956) - (Samia Gamal) Egyptian film program

This is an original year 8" x 11" 12-page Egyptian film program for the 1956 Niazi Mostafa film First Love based on a story by Gerda Corbett and Botros Zarbenelli and starring Samia Gamal [1924 - 1994] as Zeinab. The program includes song lyrics, plot and key photographic images. Plot Summary: There was a quarrel between Senia the first dancer in a dance troupe and its director, and he fired her. This gave Zeinab an opportunity to be the troupe's lead dancer. However the group's main singer refused to sing in front of her. Zeinab suggested to the director that he give the opportunity to her lover, a novice singer named Salah, who succeeded with his first trial; this made Senia resent him. She told Salah Zeinab was in a relationship with the director, whereupon Salah's relationship with Zeinab soured. The director rehired Senia. There was a quarrel between Senia's assistants and Zeinab's assistants just before a performance began. When Zeinab performed she made a place for herself in the public eye. Then she went back to Salah, who had seen the truth.

The Balah Agency (1982) - (Nadia El Guindy) Egyptian one-sheet

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Gasour and Morteda Anise for the 1982 Houssam El-Din Mustafa film The Balah Agency written by Naguib Mahfouz and starring Nadia El Guindy as Nematollah. Plot summary: Nematollah lived at the Balah Agency. She had married most of the merchants and used her relationship with the important employee Amgad, [Ahmed Louxor] who helped her learn the secrets of bargaining. She did not hesitate to kill her competitors. Abdollah [Mahmoud Yassine] came to the agency and went to work for Nematollah. She liked him, married him and made him the boss of the agency in charge of her affairs. This angered her former husband Abdoun [Mahmoud Abdel Aziz] who had gone to work for her after his bankruptcy. Abdollah discovered the truth about Nematollah and her crimes. He left her, met Amgad's daughter Mervat, [Samia Al-Alfy] married her and established a special agency with Amgad's help. Nematollah tried to bring Abdollah back but he refused. She took revenge against him by arranging to kill Amgad so no one would help him when she got her assistants to steal Amgad's goods. Abdollah thought of returning to her and asked her to confess to her crimes. The police came and arrested Namatollah. Abdoun pick up an axe to kill Abdollah with it out of revenge but Nematollah sacrificed herself for him and met her demise.

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian one-sheet poster designed by Hassan Mazhar Gasour and Dar Hani for the 1974 Henry Barakat film The Most Beautiful Days of My Life AKA Agmal Ayam Hayati based on story, screenplay and dialogue by Abdel Hay Adib and starring Naglaa Fathy as Hoda. Plot summary: Hoda hid one night on a ship bound for Beirut, where she met Samir [Hussein Fahmy]. She did not tell him she was running away from her father Gamal [Imad Hamdi] so she could marry her Lebanese lover Rafiq who was waiting for her in Beirut, that her father was offering a reward to whoever could find her or that the people looking for her were waiting at the port. Samir helped her hide in a chest above the hold and then helped her get away. They then explored Lebanon and Samir learned the truth about her. He got her to confess and they fell in love. He decided to take her to her father so they could marry. When they got there the father realized his daughter loved Samir and encouraged her to marry whomever she loved, especially since Samir was refusing the reward he had been offering. On the night of the marriage to Rafiq the father helped and encouraged his daughter to go away and marry Samir. Then the two boarded a ship to Canada so they could marry there and begin a new life.

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian one-sheet poster designed by Mohammed Abdel Aziz and Aziz for the 1974 Henry Barakat film The Clock Strikes 10 based on a story by Amin Yousseff Ghurab, screenplay and dialogue by Mohammad Mostafa Sami and starring Mahmoud Yassine as Mohammad al-Sherbini. Plot summary: Mohammad al-Sherbini was a university student working as a driver for the wealthy Abdel Maguid [Imad Hamdi]. Mohammad discovered that Abdel Maguid's wife Noura [Nahed Sherif] was cheating on him with Morad, [Mohamed Khairi] who asked him to keep it secret. Noura's brother Salah [Mohamed Nagm] wanted to marry Abdel al-Maguid's daughter Nevine [Mervat Amin] but she refused becaused she loved Mohammad. After Mohammad had a difficult and unwanted dalliance with Noura, he and Nevine decided to marry, the father blessed the relationship and the two lovers began life together.

When We Love (1967) - (Nadia Lutfi) Egyptian one-sheet

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Mohammed Abdel Aziz and Hassan Mazhar Gasour to promote the 1967 Fatin Abdel Wahab film When We Love [endma naheb] starring Nadia Lutfi and Rushdy Abaza based on a story by Mohamed El-Tabei with screenplay and dialogue by Hussein El-Mohandess and cinematography by Wadid Serri. Plot summary: Ahmed [Rushdy Abaza] is a swimming champion who has the attention of most of the beautiful women around him, but his choice among them is Madiha [Nadia Lutfi], whom he plans to marry. Ahmed has a heart attack and his physician advises him marriage will be difficult and that he should avoid swimming. Ahmed tries to keep his love away to avoid marrying her, but he cannot stand to see her in pain, so he hides the truth from her; he pretends to be in a relationship with another woman named Layla [Soheir El-Bably] to discourage Madiha; Layla takes the relationship seriously and Madiha is not deterred. When he goes back to swimming he forgets what the doctor said and prepares for a championship race. At this point he tells Madiha the truth about his illness. This shocks her and she tries to keep him from doing the race. He insists and ends up winning. However his weak heart stops as he is receiving his prize and he dies with his trophy in his arms, leaving Madiha and Layla shocked and brokenhearted.

Pictured is an Egyptian poster designed by Wahib Fahmy and Mohammad Abdel Aziz to promote the 1969 Mahmoud Zulfikar 103-minute black-and-white film Showgirl [fatat al-isterad] starring Soad Hosny based on the 1960 George Cukor film Let's Make Love with screenplay and dialogue by Mohamed Abu Youssef and cinematography by Wadid Serri. Plot summary: A dance troupe rented a theater so they could mount a confrontation in the press with the wealthy Ahmed Eloui [Hassan Youssef]. Fahmy [Adel Imam], his director of executive affairs, told him about it and they went together to attend one of the troupe's rehearsals. Ahmed invited the troupe's star Faeza [Soad Hosny] to dinner and he became known to her as Ahmed Al-Eshmawy because he did not want her to know his real name. However as the story developed Ahmed fell in love with Faeza, told her his real name and asked her to marry him.

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Abdel Rahman to promote the 1964 Houssam El-Din Mustafa 111-minute black-and-white film The Search [al-tariq] starring Rushdy Abaza based on a story by Naguib Mahfouz with secreenplay and dialogue by Hussein Helmy and cinematograpny by Wadid Serri. Plot summary: Saber al-Rahimi [Rushdy Abaza] resisted when his mother [Taheya Cariocca] was telling him while she was in prison about her scandalous past with his wealthy respectable father. It became his goal to find that father to save him from ruin and give him support and security. He left Alexandria to live in Cairo and on his long trip looking for his unknown father Saber found himself on his general life journey. He met Karima [Shadia] the wife of the owner of the hotel where he stayed. She was a woman softened by lust. Saber wooed her and at the same time he met Elham [Soad Hosny] at the newspaper Al-Akhbar al-Yom where he placed an advertisement looking for his father. A tender love story developed between the two of them but the sensous side developed between him and Karima, who came to his room at night and asked him to kill her husband [Hassan el Baroudi] to leave them free. He agreed to kill the husband but the police suspected him and went looking for him. Karima helped him flee and Elham tried to save him but the police lost no time arresting him and he was sentenced to death. According to film critic Sa'ad al-Din Tawfiq this is one of the top 100 Egyptian films.

The Barrier (1970) - (Nadia Lutfi) Egyptian one-sheet

This is 27" x 39" Egyptian poster by an unknown designer for the 1970 Mouhamed Rady film The Barrier AKA al-hagez based on story, screenplay and dialogue by Bahig Ismail and starring Nadia Lutfi as Nadia. Plot summary: Ezzat [Nour El-Sherif] did not want to go to medical school because he had a great aversion to dissection and could not even hurt a frog, but his older brother Salah [Yehia Chahine] forced him to enroll. Ezzat and Nadia met and fell in love but Ezzat did not know Nadia had married his brother Salah before meeting him. He was deeply hurt when he learned this. He took to drinking with her image constantly before him. He went home drunk on one of those difficult nights and Nadia followed him. She caught up with him and tried to console him. He left her and ran far away to hide in a basement. Nadia caught up with him again and tried to understand what had brought him to this state. He tried to kiss her but she resisted. He took a scalpel out of his pocket and killed her with it.
