The Homeless (1980) - (Naglaa Fathy) Egyptian one-sheet

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Moaty for the 1980 Ashraf Fahmy film The Homeless based on a story by Naguib Mahfouz, screenplay by Ahmed Saleh and starring Naglaa Fathy as Laila. Laila was a successful attorney married to a wealthy contractor named Fathy [Mahmoud Yassine]. They were entirely different culturally. He was ignorant whereas she was a hard worker in a high social position. She was constrained in her life with him and withdrew from him after failing to improve his social worth. Fathy took up with a woman with a bad reputation named Sausan [Nabila Ebeid]. Laila learned about his relationship with her and asked him for a divorce, which she got. Laila defended a woman in a case similar to the one in her own life. The person she was defending killed her husband after discovering he had been unfaithful to her, even though he had lifted her out of poverty and married her, and this is what had happened to Laila. During a visit to Sausan Fathy suddenly had a severe heart attack. Sausan contacted Laila to tell her about his illness. Laila felt regret about the way she had treated him and asked him to forgive her, but he died in Sausan's home as a result of the heart attack.

Ramadan over a Volcano (1985) - (Adel Imam) Lebanese one-sheet

This is a 27" x 39" Lebanese poster designed by Gasour for the 1985 Ahmed El-Sabawy film Ramadan over a Volcano based on story, screenplay and dialogue by Samir Abdelazim and starring Adel Imam as Ramadan. Plot summary: Under pressure from the mother of his fiancee [Elham Shaheen] Ramadan embezzled his company's payroll, knowing the legal consequences. He turned himself in and went to prison, planning to use the money to marry after his release. He hid the bag containing the payroll, but it was stolen. When the police inspector realized there was no money in the stash, he released Ramadan from prison. Ramadan went after the gang and recovered the lost stash, then turned himself in again.

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Khalil and Wahib Fahmy to promote the 1966 Fatin Abdel Wahab film Apple of their Eye. Plot summary: Galila was a young girl who lived with her mother's husband. He was always making her steal from the customers at a tavern he managed, where her sister was a dancer. Galila decided to stop stealing. One night she fled the tavern and went to a distant village. She turned up at the home of Youssef Bey who had taken her in to work in his home. Galila's presence soon caused many problems for she was a beautiful girl who attracted the attention of both the father Youssef and the son Hassan, who worked as a veterinarian, as well as Shaaban the school superintendent who tried to rape her. They all wanted to get close to Galila. Shaaban discoverd the truth about Galila and she found herself surrounded by harsh language. The father and the son fell in love with her. Galila decided to leave the farm. Hassan was hurt. Galila returned to her mother's husband leaving an open question at the end of the film: would she marry Hassan or not?

People at the Top (1981) - (Soad Hosny) Egyptian one-sheet

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Hassan Mazhar Gasour to promote the 1981 118-minute Aly Badrakhan color film People at the Top [ahl al-qimma] starring Soad Hosny based on a story by Naguib Mahfouz with screenplay by Aly Badrakhan and Mostafa Moharram and cinematograpy by Mohsen Nasr. Plot summary: Mohammad Fawzi [Ezzat El Alaily] was an officer investigating the hiring of the thief Zaatar al-Nouri [Nour El-Sherif] by Zaghloul [Omar El Hariri], the owner of an import export company. Zaghloul used Zaatar's resources and gave him suspicious assignments that involved the smuggling of Customs goods. Zaatar fell in love with the employee Saham [Soad Hosny], the daughter of Mohammad's sister. When Mohammad discovered the relationship between his niece and Zaatar, he told her he hoped she would drop him. When Zaatar's power increased he tried to compete with and challenge Zaghloul. He also tried to learn the truth about Zaghloul's relationship with Mohammad but Mohammad refused to tell him. Zaatar set out to deceive Zaghloul and to confiscate for himself a big shipment of smuggled import goods. Saham married Zaatar despite Mohammad's objections. Zaghloul's attorney was caught smuggling; he told Mohammad the truth about Zaghloul, but the results of the investigation were not revealed in a television interview and Mohammad was transferred to Assyout.

Habaeb District (1989) - (Saeed Saleh) Egyptian one-sheet

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian film poster designed by Hassan Mazhar Gasour to promote the 1989 Hassan El-Seify 100-minute color film Habaeb District starring Saeed Saleh and Younes Shalabi based on a story by Morad Ali Amin with screenplay and dialogue by Kamal Salah Eddine and cinematography by Aly Khairollah. Plot summary: Sayed Ahmed Desouqi [Saeed Saleh] and Farouq Abdel Daem Ibrahim [Younes Shalabi] were distibutors of residential gas cannisters living in the Habaeb district. They loved two sisters whom they had promised to marry, but on their distribution rounds they met and fell in love with two other women. These two women, who were nightclub dancers, decided to set a trap for them. One of the women named Soraya [Nagwa Fouad] led the men to the apartment of Aziz, a jeweler, so she could steal his jewels and blame them. She got Sayed and Farouq drunk; when they became sober and saw the crime that had been committed, they fled the scene with the help of one of the building residents. A disagreement broke out between Soraya and her friend, because the stolen jewels were found to be fake. The police were notified, Soraya was arrested and Sayed and Farouq were exonerated and returned to the Habaeb district and their girlfriends.

Farewell to Torment (1978) - (Naglaa Fathy) Egyptian one-sheet

Pictured is a promotional poster for the 1978 Ahmed Yehia 110-minute color film Farewell to Torment [weda'an lil-'azab] based on the 1926 King Vidor film La Boheme starring Naglaa Fathy with screenplay and dialogue by Aly Al-Zarkany and cinematography by Wahid Farid. Plot summary: In a poor neighborhood the orphan girl Layla [Naglaa Fathy] took up residence in a room in the home of Zenouba [Zixi Mustafa]. Two other residents of the same house, Adel and Nour [Hussein Fahmy], tried to get close to Layla. Layla worked in the service of the crazy rich lady Fahima and won her friendship and confidence, even though the woman mistreated her and enjoyed it. The neighborhood leader Haj Hassan objected to Layla's presence in the house but Salah [Mahmoud Abdel Aziz] accepted her and brought her back to the house, even though she was suffering from a critical illness that required a surgical operation. Nour, Salah, Adel and Zenouba raised the money for the operation, which was a success.
