Summary: Shalabia, a beautiful country girl, moved from her village to
work as a maid in a pasha's palace in Alexandria. However she fell in
love with the pasha's opportunist driver Ali [Mahmoud Hemida] and made
the other maids jealous. One of them told the pasha about their
relationship so he would fire them both. He took advantage of the
opportunity to exploit his lover Shalabia in the acquisition of much
wealth for his illegitimate purposes. He swept her out with the trash
after using her as a dancer at the Al-Faramawy Nightclub and promising
to marry her while he was improving his financial situation. Shalabia
learned the art of dancing and changed her name to Samara the Prince
to increase her fame among the wealthy people who frequented the
nightclub. Her fans who showered her with wealth multiplied. They
included Marwan Amin the nationalist journalist, Mr. Faw the English
stockbroker and Mehdi Pasha, a prominent politician. When Samara the
Prince met the tax agent Omar Abdel Awi she found in him a life
partner and married him hoping to begin an honorable life without
depravity. She tried to quit the night life but her first lover Ali
refused to allow this because he wanted to keep stealing her money.
Ali decided she had to return to her work as a dancer. Her husband
Omar negotiated for a divorce in return for a sum of money but when
Ali failed to win the argument with Omar he killed him to punish
Samara.

Naguib Mahfouz and starring Farid Shawqi as Al-Dinari. Plot summary:
The dominant district thug Al-Dinari hired laundry worker Shata
al-Hagari [Nour El-Sherif] to conduct surveillance on his fiancee
Wedad [Nabila Ebeid]. Shata did not like this job but he liked Wedad
and they decided to marry. After they were married Shata and Wedad
lived under the protection of Al-Shebli, [Adel Adham] the dominant
thug in the Al-Atouf district, who was hostile to Al-Dinari.
Al-Shebli wanted Wedad and he raped her in front of Shata. He said
his primary motivation for doing this was to get revenge against
Al-Dinari. Shata returned with Wedad to his family, who knew what had
happened to him. He asked Al-Dinari to set a time for him to meet
Al-Shebli in a fight. Shata had advised staying away from his wife
because she was about to have a baby but Al-Shebli had refused. Shata
resolved to take revenge; when the fight took place Shata killed
Al-Shebli, but he was then killed almost immediately by one of
Al-Shebli's henchmen. Wedad had her baby the same day and decided to
move to another place with her son. Al-Dinari was sad about what had
happened despite the district celebration of his victory over his
enemy.

summary: This film depicts the life of Rabea al-Adawiyah, an 8th
century female Sufi poet and saint living in Basra in what is now
Iraq. This was Nabila Ebeid's first film performance. The film covers
her life as a Sufi recluse after she moved to Basra and developed a
relationship with Essam Eddine [Imad Hamdi]. She then met the Sufi
Sauban, who led her to the right path.

Laila was a successful attorney married to a wealthy contractor named
Fathy [Mahmoud Yassine]. They were entirely different culturally. He
was ignorant whereas she was a hard worker in a high social position.
She was constrained in her life with him and withdrew from him after
failing to improve his social worth. Fathy took up with a woman with
a bad reputation named Sausan [Nabila Ebeid]. Laila learned about his
relationship with her and asked him for a divorce, which she got.
Laila defended a woman in a case similar to the one in her own life.
The person she was defending killed her husband after discovering he
had been unfaithful to her, even though he had lifted her out of
poverty and married her, and this is what had happened to Laila.
During a visit to Sausan Fathy suddenly had a severe heart attack.
Sausan contacted Laila to tell her about his illness. Laila felt
regret about the way she had treated him and asked him to forgive her,
but he died in Sausan's home as a result of the heart attack.

Hamdi]. Mokhtar encouraged him and arranged a match between him and
Soad. Mahmoud wanted to be wealthy but his marriage became unstable
after he became bored with his wife. Hoda discovered there was a
relationship between Soad and Adel [Magdy Wahba] and tried to separate
them. Mahmoud found Hoda had stolen the details of an auction to a
competitor's clients and confronted her with it. Mokhtar got involved
after Hoda confirmed the relationship between Soad and Adel.

to her social position as a wife, so she asked Mahmoud to keep his
distance. Mahmoud's fortunes improved and he acquired a lot of money
and property, so he quit his studies and research, but Amal no longer
knew him as the person he used to be, and their relationship changed.
She was not close to her husband either but she carried on with her
life and stuck to her principles.

marry into a higher social class so he would be able to invite his
friends to dinner at that restaurant. The second story is Used to
Be [kan] directed by Ashraf Fahmy and starring Nabila Ebeid, Hamdy
Ahmed, El Sayed Radi, and Ali al-Sherif. Hasuna [Hamdy Ahmed], a
carpenter in a poor neighborhood, longs to meet Sania [Nabila Ebeid],
a film actress from his area who is making a film on his street.
Naguib Mahfouz wrote the third story, titled Sura [photo]
directed by Madkour Sabet, cinematography by Hassan Abdel Fattah and
starring Mahmoud El-Meliguy, Mahmoud Yassine, Wahid Ezzat, Fatheia
Shahin and Mohi Ismail. Plot summary for sura: The police were
looking for the body of a woman at the foot of the pyramids. Her
picture was published in a newspaper. A number of people thought the
woman in the photo looked familiar. A mother thought she was her
daughter who had left her village to work in Cairo; one gentleman
thought she was the maid he used to flirt with. For a director she
was the mistress who had attacked him and fled. She was a different
woman with a different name in each home and for each man. The
investigator tried in vain to find the truth.

far from the city after being hurt by his unfaithful wife. He hated
everything female, even hens. Wagih met a social overseer named Samia
[Nabila Ebeid] who had also come from the Paris Oasis
to work at the elementary school. However he was afraid of her and
avoided talking to her. At the school where Samia worked the director
Daoud [Fouad El-Mohandes] was taking steps to retire; he married one
of the girls at the oasis, never to return. Wagih began to feel that
this Samia differed greatly from his unfaithful wife, thanks to the
influence of his friend. Engineer Nagy married Samia.

Sena [Youssef Chaban] got out of prison after killing one of the
residents of his building. Fear overtook the people in his
neighborhood because of his domination. Abu Sena persuaded some of
the people to leave their apartments in his building in exchange for
money and he converted those units into commercial shops and
import-export offices. Abu Sena convinced Ghabasha [Hassan Hosny] to
rent a furnished apartment to a wealthy Arab named Redwan. A
journalist named Ahmad [Farouk Al-Fichawi] recorded the changes that
had been happening in the neighborhood but his editor refused to
publish his articles. Safrut [Abdel Salam Mohamed] liked Farawla
[Nabila Ebeid] but she rejected him. He therefore quit his job
working in the coffee house owned by her father al-Mawardy [Farid
Shawqi] and left the neighborhood. Al-Mawardy married his mistress
Ragaa after having problems with Abu Sena. Ghabasha pressured his
niece Warda [Maha Osman] to marry Redwan, but on the wedding day she
fled to Alexandria. She also liked her neighbor the student Mamdouh
[Farid Mahmoud], but he had no feelings for her. Safrut returned to
the neighborhood after becoming wealthy. Abu Sena and Safrut made an
agreement with Ghabasha to kill Ahmad on the night of his marriage to
Farawla. Al-Mawardy divored his wife Ragaa. Ahmad's friend Shabaan
[Mamdouh Abd El Aleem] collected his articles about the neighborhood
and published them in a book of memories. When Mamdouh read what
Ahmed had written about him he recognized his mistake and went back to
Warda in Alexandria. The two of them married in a celebration in the
neighborhood. Abu Sena died at the hands of unknown murderers.

mother of Ahmad, who had been engaged to marry in a few days. Ahmad
decided to take revenge against the prince's men at any price.

Suicide [entehar saheb al-sha'ah] Starring Nabila Ebeid based on a

Farida lived with her husband Hamdi in Hamdi's family apartment; they
both worked at the same company. His mother was always trying to turn
him against her, and she finally separated from him. The company
director Abdel Aziz liked her. After she became fed up with her
mother-in-law's behavior she went to live with her coworker Mervat.
Hamdi divorced her and then Farida married Abdel Aziz. He had a
luxury apartment but he was also a drunk who liked to play with the
maids while his wife was was sleeping. She found about it and left
him, then went back to him. She exploited his weakness until she
became the owner of the apartment and caused his death when he fell
off the balcony while flirting with her; upon investigation this was
found to be a suicide. She went back to her first husband Hamdi and
gave him the apartment becuase she was afraid of Abdel Aziz's heirs.
Then Hamdi's family took over the apartment. At first they merely
lived there with her but they ended up driving her out.

The Drowned Woman [al-gharqana] Egyptian film poster

promote the 92-minute Mohamed Khan color film The Drowned Woman
[al-gharqana] starring Nabila Ebeid as Warda based on screenplay and
dialogue by Mostafa Moharram and a story by Hassan Shah, with
cinematography by Mohsen Nasr. Plot summary: In a village on the
southern coast of the Sinai the pretty Bedouin woman Wafa was in
heartbreak and pain because she had become a widow to three husbands.
People were accusing her of being bad luck for men! Warda went to see
the village sorcerer, a swindler and a quack, to ask him how to break
the spell. He persuaded her to marry him and told her this would
purge the curse. She agreed to the marriage and gave birth to a
deformed midget, whom the father named Mabruk. The father attributed
miracles to him and accumulated much wealth by using simple devices to
promote superstition and quackery. Warda started supprting herself as
a dancer in a tourist village. Then Mabruk drowned while playing in
the sea in his parents' absence; the local women told the sorcerer his
wife had caused it, so he drowned her too. The sorcerer then went
back to swindling the villagers with the help of a local assistant,
who claimed Mabruk's soul had dissolved into the body of his father!

and distributed by Gamal El-Tabei Films. Plot smmmary: Ramzy was a
young man who worked at his corporate job seriously and with
discipline. He lived in a humble apartment with his sister Sanaa, a
good and simple girl. Shawkat Bey tried to push Ramzy into a projects
office to facilitate his embezzlement activity. He issued an order
appointing Ramzy director of an office so he could collaborate with
him. He also introduced him to an abnormal girl so she could catch
him in her traps. Ramzy proposed to her and discovered the extent of
her demands and dreams about such things as villas and automobiles.
She tried to push him into accepting bribes and Shawkat Bey tried to
get rid of him by catching him on an accusation of accepting a bribe so he
could have him thrown into prison. Ramzy endured the prison sentence;
when he was released he found his sister had committed suicide after
one of his friends had assaulted her. Then he sought revenge against
the manager who had gotten him thrown in prison and the friend who had
killed his sister.
