Zaki as Hesham. Plot summary: The film tells the story of the rise
and fall of Colonel Hesham Abol-Wafa, an Egyptian police officer
during the Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar Sadat years (1962 - 1980). It
received the Silver Award at the Damascus Film Festival in 1987 and
was also shown in competition at the Moscow Film Festival in 1987. It
was shown as well at the Montreal, Valencia, Tetouan, Digne, Istanbul
and Nantes Film Festivals in 1987 and 1988.

AKA al-arbagy based on story, screeenplay and dialogue by Wahid
Hamed. Cinematography was by Ibrahim Saleh and the poster art was by
Wahib Fahmy and al-Khad. Plot Summary: The cart driver Sayed [Mahmoud
Yassine] lived with his wife Fakiha [Shouweikar] and his children. He
convinced the lottery ticket seller Shalabia [Maali Zayed] to sell him
one so he could try his luck. He won 1000 pounds and decided to spend
the money on an adventure. The people in the neighborhood were happy
for him with the exception of Sheikh Nazir who said he was just going
to waste the money in nightclubs. However this was too much money to
gamble, so he used it to make a deal with a corrupt manipulator, whose
betrayal he soon discovered when he lost the money. He told the
police, they caught the criminal; then the cart driver went back home
and continued living as before.

Al-Shiemy. Plot summary: Shaaban is a poor worker who loves his
colleague Zeinab [Essad Youniss], but is unable to provide her with an
apartment. He tries to get a loan of 1000 pounds for this purpose
from the wealthy al-Ghatrifi Bey [Imad Hamdi] but is refused. When
al-Ghatrifi dies shortly thereafter his relatives try to take his
wealth but are unable to do so legally, so they talk Shaaban into
impersonating al-Ghatrifi's son with forged papers so he can get the
the money from the government. He agrees to this but insists on being
paid half the total inheritance of 6.5 million pounds.

the 1983 Mohamed Khan 128-minute color film Street Player
[al-harif] starring Adel Imam based on a story by Mohamed Khan and
Bachir El Dik, screenplay and dialogue by Bachir El Dik and
cinematography by Said Sheimy. This early film by Mohamed Khan was
his only collaboration with actor Adel Imam. It is about a street
sockball player named Fares [Adel Imam], based on the life of a real
street player who was known as Barefoot Said. The film depicts his
relationship with his divorced wife [Fardous Abdel Hamid], his son
from that marriage and his employment situation in a shoe factory.
The sets are realistic and true to the times and social class of
Barefoot Said and his milieu. Plot Summary: Fares worked in a shoe
factory and lived alone in a rooftop room. He had separated from his
wife Dalal despite the love between them and their small son. He
tried unsuccessfully to restore their relationship. Rizq [Abdula
Farghali] bet on him when he competed in matches and won the lion's
share of the gambling proceeds, but gave little to Fares. His
neighbor on the roof committed murder and the police came to arrest
him. Fares was fired from his job because of negligence. His colleague Soad
tried to get close to him without success because he loved his
divorced wife. He met his old friend Shaaban who had acquired an auto
dealership; Shaaban agreed to work with Fares and gave him a Bijou
automobile. Fares returned to Dalal so they could do some errands
together and educate their son. He also played in a sockball
tournament.

Nasr. Plot summary: Saad the Orphan [Ahmed Zaki] was in love with
Sabah [Naglaa Fathy], the daughter of a gang leader named Badran
[Mahmoud Moursy]. Another gang leader named al-Halbawy [Farid Shawqi]
also wanted to marry Sabah. This created a conflict for Sabah's
father Badran and a rivaly between al-Halbawy and Saad the Orphan,
although arrangements had been made for Saad the Orphan to marry
Sabah, since this was what Sabah wanted and her father Badran had
agreed to it. There was a fight on the wedding night between
al-Halbawy and Saad the Orphan where Saad the Orphan prevailed. Then
there was another fight the same night where Badran was killed after
Saad the Orphan learned that Badran, his father-in-law, had been the
killer of his father and mother.

[Nawal Abul Foutouh]. Sami decided to separate from his fiance hoping
Samira would change her mind. He revealed his feelings to Samira but she
told him she was committed to Shukry. Sami learned his lesson and
went back to his fiance with apologies; Samira and Shukry got married.

Aref with cinematography by Adel Abdel Azim. Plot summary: Karim's
[Abdel Moneim Madbouly] first daughter Karima had breathtaking beauty.
She loved a boy named Kamal [Samir Sabri] whose wealth she envied, but
at the same time she was madly in love with her cousin, an ambitious
engineer named Ahmad [Nour El-Sherif]. Meanwhile her sister Hoda's
life had long been limited since her cousin had been chosen as a
husband and they loved each other. The mother pushed her daughter
Karima towards Kamal, but Karima's heart was with Ahmad. In light of
Karima's ambivalence Ahmad saw no way out other than a relationship
with his colleague Safa, while Kamal distanced himself from Karima and
married a rich girl. Karima had fallen victim to her own ambivalence.
Meanwhile her sister Hoda introduced her to an Arabic language teacher
at the school where she worked, professor Younes, and tried to present
her to him as a bride, but he quickly discovered she was worthless
because she did not know how to do anything around the house. She was
so interested in clothing and decorations that she became sick, and in
the efforts by the physician, the sister, her husband and the father
to heal Karima, Hamdi sent a letter to summon Ahmad to come and cure
Karima, but she could not accept his marriage. She tried to separate
them but failed and became disgusted with her own life. She rejected
her mother's advice about making a new commitment to the completion of
her studies.

1986 Ahmad Fouad film The Train [al-qatar] based on story,
screenplay and dialogue by Mohammad Said Marzouk with cinematography by
Ramses Marzouk. Plot summary: The train engineer Ibrahim [Fouad
Ahmed] was sure his wife Gamalat [Amal Ibrahim] had betrayed him with
his assistant and colleague Sobhi [Abu Bakr Ezzat]. He killed her
after confronting her with her confession. He decided to kill his
disloyal colleague while they were on the high-speed train at the
Assyut Station; they got into a fight and fell off the train while it
was throttling down the tracks at high velocity. A drunken passenger saw this while he
was leaning out a window and retching; he told the other passengers
but no one believed him. The train did not stop at its stations on
the way to Aswan and fear and panic spread among the passengers. On
board the wreck-bound train a girl named Farida [Mervat Amin] and a
boy named Khaled [Nour El-Sherif] fell in love after a brief
acquaintance as fellow travelers. Khaled crawled up on the roof and heroically tried to bring
the train into the wheelhouse; a rescue helicopter moved him to the engineer's cabin with a sling so he could stop it
before it crashed. The girl was proud of what the boy she loved had
done. Director Ahmed Fouad makes an appearance as a hitchhiker making
his way to Assyut about 16 minutes into the film.

Farid. Plot summary: In a poor neighborhood the orphan girl Layla
[Naglaa Fathy] took up residence in a room in the home of Zenouba
[Zixi Mustafa]. Two other residents of the same house, Adel and Nour
[Hussein Fahmy], tried to get close to Layla. Layla worked in the
service of the crazy rich lady Fahima and won her friendship and
confidence, even though the woman mistreated her and enjoyed it. The
neighborhood leader Haj Hassan objected to Layla's presence in the
house but Salah [Mahmoud Abdel Aziz] accepted her and brought her back
to the house, even though she was suffering from a critical illness
that required a surgical operation. Nour, Salah, Adel and Zenouba
raised the money for the operation, which was a success.
