This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Stamatis Vassiliou for the 1962 Albert Naguib film Tomorrow Will Be Another Day based on story, screenplay and dialogue by Hassan Tewfik and starring Hind Rostom as Laila. Plot summary: Laila used to spend some of her time on the banks of the Nile. That was where she first met her husband Ahmed Abdel Salam [Imad Hamdi] and his friend Rafet, [Ahmed Ramzi] who had been in love with her for a long time. However Ahmed was the one she married; they had a baby girl. As the years went by Ahmed's sister Mona [Zahrat El-Ola] kept hoping in vain Rafet would develop feelings for her. In 1956 during the Suez Crisis Ahmed was summoned to defend the country. Laila received a report Ahmed had been killed but could not accept it. After five years Rafet went back to the home of his absent friend. Ahmed's daughter Nadia became close to Rafet, who was trying to get Laila to marry him. When Nadia became ill Ahmed cared for her. Laila finally agreed to the marriage to save her daughter. During the Suez fighting Ahmed had fled into the desert and survived with help from the Bedouins. When he finally got home he was shocked when he found his wife and Rafet together and shot Rafet, but not fatally. Ahmed was given a suspended prison sentence and went back to his wife Laila.

The woman did not seem as if she would be easy to seduce so Gaber sent her husband abroad on a mission to distract him. He then tried to get close to her but she would not allow it; he sent the couple a will leaving a large sum of money to a son from another woman. When Dr. Hussein heard about this he separated from his wife. Soad decided to avenge the damage that had been done to her reputation. She went to court and presented medical evidence her husband was impotent.

Galila decided to stop stealing. One night she fled the tavern and went to a distant village. She turned up at the home of Youssef Bey who had taken her in to work in his home. Galila's presence soon caused many problems for she was a beautiful girl who attracted the attention of both the father Youssef and the son Hassan, who worked as a veterinarian, as well as Shaaban the school superintendent who tried to rape her. They all wanted to get close to Galila. Shaaban discoverd the truth about Galila and she found herself surrounded by harsh language. The father and the son fell in love with her. Galila decided to leave the farm. Hassan was hurt. Galila returned to her mother's husband leaving an open question at the end of the film: would she marry Hassan or not?

He asked her to marry him, but the aunt [Zeinat Sedki] opposed the marriage because she had promised the girl in marriage to an older teacher, Abbas Afash [Mahmoud El-Meliguy]. The girl asked Ismail to join the Navy because she had friends there. Ismail did this and formed good friendships with two them [Abdel Moneim Ismail and Ahmed Ramzy] while maintaining regular correspondence with Nadia. His comrades in the Navy were sad when they heard Nadia had became engaged to Abbas Afash, and they gave Ismail some money so he could go marry her himself. Then they all descended on the Al-Anfushi neighborhood and began fighting with the Afash's friends. This spoiled the wedding and Ismail married his sweetheart after the military police arrested the troublemakers.

This an original folded 27" x 39" Egyptian movie poster designed by Raouf for the 1976 Youssef Chahine film Return of the prodigal son freely adapted from the 1907 André Gide novel, produced in Egypt and Algeria with screenplay by Salah Jahine and Youssef Chahine and starring Ali Mahrez as Ali. Plot summary: "Return of the Prodigal Son is another Chahine parable set between the Arab-Israeli wars. An activist who's been jailed for more than a decade, Ali is eagerly awaited by his family. All hope that this just man will stand up against his ruthless brother's tyranny, but nobody even recognizes the prodigal when he shows up during a big party. Prison has so thoroughly crushed Ali's youth and idealism that he now allies himself with the oppressor." From the Cornell University Library web site. The film is a melodrama/musical centering on family strife in the Madbouli family heightened by the release of the family's youngest son from prison after serving ten years for construction fraud, who turns out to be a disappointment when he goes to work at his father's factory. The family lives on a farm headed by an authoritarian father [Mahmoud El-Meliguy]. The film has also been seen as an allegorical treatment of Egypt's poliitical disillusion following the death of Gamal Abdel Nasser (1918-1970), who had been criticized by some as an authoritarian leader of a police state, too dependent on the power of his personal charisma and unable to create intermediary institutions or adopt practical programs for national development.

Plot Summary: Samara [Samia Gamal] was a poor girl with an abundance of femininity and beauty engaged to a mechanic named Ahmed [Shukry Sarhan], but her love for dance drew her to her neighbor, a dancer named Zakia [Taheya Cariocca]. She secretly went with Zakia to the hall where she worked. She met a weathy man there named Rostom [Youssef Wahby] who liked her and wanted to court her but she rejected him; she later changed her mind and married him, deciding this was her only way out of poverty; he worked on her appearance by buying her luxurious clothing and jewelry. When Samara's fiance learned she had unexpectly disappeared to marry the rich man, he became furious and swore he would take revenge against her. Zakia tried to calm him by ushering him into a relationship with an international trader [Mahmoud El-Meliguy] who took him on as an associate in a shady trading operation. In this operation Ahmed changed his name to Ibrahim and ran into Rostom and Samara by chance in Lebanon. Samara's husband also turned out to involved in criminal activity and when she saw Ahmed again in Lebanon they were not getting along. She tried to rekindle her relationship with Ahmed without success; Ahmed had found a new life. Rostom's assistant Semsem [Stephan Rosti] tried to kill Ahmed after Rostom has realized the nature of their former relationship. Ahmed survived the murder attempt; then Zakia and Ahmed began to form a relationship, but Zakia was killed by Semsem in a domestic shootout in Rostom's sumptious home in Lebanon. When Samara and Rostom returned to Cairo Rostom was shot by the police. Ahmed and Samara were left alone together in Cairo at last to pick up the pieces in their old relationship.

The film was produced by the Nihas Studio. Plot summary: Shahata [Youssef Wahby] worked at a civil hospital known for its good ethics. He crusaded against embezzlement at work and therefore all the employees feared him and made sure anything suspicious they did was not evident to him, while at the same time he watched them closely. Shahata lived with his daughter Ne'mat [Soad Hosny] and his wife [Amina Rizk]. A low-ranking employee named Hussein [Salah Zulfikar] came to court Ne'mat but Shahata found himself in a bind because he was unable to properly outfit his daughter. He asked the company for an advance, but the office refused. A corrupt employee offered to lend him some money in exchange for a security deposit, but Shahata then discovered the employee had embezzled this money. The employees plotted against Shahata. One of them set the hospital treasury on fire on one of the nights of Ramadan. Shahata was burned to death when he rushed in to salvage the contents.

Plot summary: Samira [Samira Ahmed] prepared to move to her marriage home, but she was short of funds and found herself unable to finish the job. She asked her father Abdel Hamid [Abbas Fares] for a loan one day while he was playing cards with his mistress Soad [Aida Halal] and her brother Morsi [Mahmoud El-Meliguy]. Samira got into a debate with her father but in anger he said "you are not my daughter." Samira left his home shouting "it is better for someone like that to die!" Morsi heard her say this and got the idea of killing the father and blaming the daughter. Morsi planned the crime carefully and invited Samira to pay a quiet visit to her father. Then he poisoned the father and put him to sleep. Samira came in and left her fingerprints everywhere, leaving the corpse and her handbag behind when she left. Samira was accused of the murder. Her husband the attorney Magdi [Imad Hamdi] saw a newspaper with bold headlines condemning Samira and tried to get her exonerated, but was unable to to do so and she was sentenced to death at the trial. In a happy ending, Samira was spared execution on the morning she was scheduled to die because of a last-minute disclosure of the real facts of the crime in surprise testimony by the murderer's sister, Soad.

This is an original Egyptian stone lithograph film poster by an unknown designer for the 1948 El-Sayed Ziada 140-minute black-and-white film Forbidden Happiness [al-sa'ada al-mahrama] starring Amina Rizk (1910-2003) based on a story by Aly Al-Zarkany with screenplay and dialogue by El-Sayed Ziada and cinematography by Abdel Aziz Fahmy. Plot summary: Amina and Fouad loved each other and enjoyed their lives. They were watched enviously by the wealthy old Tawfiq Bey, who wanted the girl for his own wife, hated the boy Amina loved and was made miserable by their happiness together. The man ordered one of his assistants to dispense with with the boy, brought the girl to his home by force and married her. She submitted because her beloved had disappeared and she did not know anything about what had happened to him. The months went by and Amina gave birth to a son by Fouad named Raouf, whom Tawfiq treated cruelly. Tawfiq died and left a will providing that his wife would be not be allowed to inherit his vast fortune if she married anyone after he was gone. The miserable wife discovered that her beloved Fouad had been in hiding and had escaped the attempt to kill him. She went back to him, they became committed to their marriage and she turned her back on the oppressive man's wealth.

This is an Egyptian film poster designed by Mohammad Abdel Aziz for the 1964 Youssef Chahine 100-minute color film Dawn of a New Day [fagr yom gedid] with story and screenplay by Samir Nasry, dialogue by Abdel Rahman El-Sharqawy, cinematography by Abel Aziz Fahmy and starring the late Sanaa Gamil (1930-2002) as Nayed. Plot summary: A varied group of bourgeois people were living in poverty in Cairo after political conditions turned against them. They included Nayed, a women in her 40s. She met a young man named Tareq (Seif El Dine) and was drawn to him even though he was from a completely different social class; she did not choose a man from her own class, not even Abu Al-Ala who was trying to get close to her. Tareq was still a student at the university living in a humble room on an upper floor and studying engineering. The boy had to go abroad for three years to complete his studies. He discovered that Nayed was treating him as a substitute for a small boy who had died years ago. This is what started her relationship with a poor man, but he was unable to correct the situation. Nayed tried to obtain the money to give to her beloved so he could complete his studies, working as a secretary at the press office her brother managed, but then she suddenly decided to end her association with this boy, who was no more than twenty-two years of age; they said goodbye to each other at the Cairo Station.

Directed by Fatin Abdel Wahab, cinematography Abdel Aziz Fahmy, screenplay and dialogue by Ismail Al-Qadi and Fathi Zeki. Plot summary: Galila was a young girl who lived with her mother's husband. He was always making her steal from the customers at a tavern he managed, where her sister was a dancer. Galila decided to stop stealing. One night she fled the tavern and went to a distant village. She turned up at the home of Youssef Bey who had taken her in to work in his home. Galila's presence soon caused many problems for she was a beautiful girl who attracted the attention of both the father Youssef and the son Hassan, who worked as a veterinarian, as well as Shaaban the school superintendent who tried to rape her. They all wanted to get close to Galila. Shaaban discoverd the truth about Galila and she found herself surrounded by harsh language. The father and the son fell in love with her. Galila decided to leave the farm. Hassan was hurt. Galila returned to her mother's husband leaving an open question at the end of the film: would she marry Hassan or not?
