This is an 11" x 14" US title card for the 1947 William D. Russell film Dear Ruth based on a screenplay by Arthur Sheekman and Norman Krasna and starring Joan Caulfield as Ruth Wilkins. J.D. Salinger combined the last names of this film's stars, William Holden and Joan Caulfield, to make the name of the protagonist for his novel The Catcher in the Rye. Plot summary: Miriam Wilkins [Mona Freeman] pretends to be her older sister Ruth in wartime correspondence with Lt. William Seacroft [William Holden], a bombardier in Italy, never expecting her sister would find out about it. There is a family crisis when Lieutenant Seacroft comes to their home expecting to meet Ruth.
