Circus Actors (1961) - (Lyubov Oriova) one-sheet
This is a 26.5" x 28.75" Egyptian poster designed by Abdel Rahman for the 1936 Soviet export Stalinist propaganda film Circus Actors AKA Tsirk AKA The Circus written and directed by Grigori Aleksandrov and starring Lyubov Oriova as Marion Dixon. Plot summary: Marion Dixon is a Vaudeville dancer on tour in the Soviet Union as a circus performer with her German manager von Kneischitz [Pavel Massalsky] after being banished from the US because she has been impregnated by a black man. In showing the warm acceptance of the black child by the Russian people, the film tries to show the superiority of life under Stalin. The circus acts and animals easily redeem the film regardless of how one feels about Stalinist propaganda.
