Pictured is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Abdel Ghani to promote an undated rerelease of the 1942 105-minute Kamal Selim black-and-white film Dreams of Youth [ahlam al-shabab] starring Farid Al Atrache based on a story by Youssef Wahby with screenplay by Kamal Selim, dialogue by Badei Khayri and cinematography by Sami Brail. Plot summary: Farid [Farid Al Atrache] became wealthy; he had a passion for love so he became acquainted with his neighbor Elham [Madiha Yousri], an orphan who lived with her Aunt Basiyouni [Marie Munib]. With Bassiyouni's agreement Farid became Elham's piano teacher. In a complication that plays itself out during the film a dancer named Baheya [Taheya Cariocca] also tried to woo Farid, but he did not love her even though they performed together.

This is a rare original Egyptian program for the 1949 musical She's Cute! [baladi wa khifa] written and directed by Hussein Fawzi and starring Naima Akef as Hanouma. Plot summary: Hanouma was engaged to Mahrous, [Saad Abdel Wahab] a musician. She met Khaled Bey, [Abbas Fares] a film director, who introduced her to the world of fame. She turned her back on the people in her old neighborhood, but after that she was torn between the devil and a good angel tugging at her from opposite directions; she finally went back to Mahrous.

Plot summary: Abdel Sabour [Mahmoud El-Meliguy] was a thief and a smuggler known as The Beast to the people in one of the villages of upper Egypt; everyone was afraid of him, including the police. He enjoyed the protection of Redwan Pasha, [Abbas Fares] who in turn used him during elections to eliminate his rivals. Officer Raouf Saleh was sent to the village with his wife and son with the assignment of arresting The Beast. However The Beast and his gang worked together from the beginning trying to dispose of the officer and his family in any way possible.

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Wahib Fahmy for the 1970 Anwar El-Shenawy film black-and-white film The Mirage based on a story by Naguib Mahfouz and starring Nour El-Sherif as Kamel. Plot Summary: Kamel (Nour El-Sherif) is a wealthy boy who marries a teacher named Rebab (Magda). A lot of time is consumed early in the film with a series of silent flirtations as they shyly watch each other from a distance in and out of metro cars. They finally break the tension with an awkward conversation in which he proposes in his first complete sentence to her. On the wedding night she discovers he is impotent. Kamel goes to Dr. Amin the psychiatrist (Rushdy Abaza) who assures him his problems are caused by things that happened during his childhood. Dr. Amin knows Rebab. He asks her to help Kamel overcome his problem to get through the marriage crisis and restore him to full health. The dysfunction continues as Kamel is unable to perform with his wife, especially since his mother (Aqila Ratib), who does not like Rebab, dominates his thinking; he is only able to do this in a brothel. However Kamel still loves Rebab very much. During this period a relationship begins between Dr. Amin and Rebab after a furious fight between her and Kamel. This affair results in pregnancy; when Rebab is on her way home Kamel tells her he has been cured, but she is not able to respond to him, and he discovers the truth. Then she dies of a hemhorrage during a miscarriage.

This is a 27" x 39" Moroccan poster by an unknown artist made to promote the 1942 Ahmad Badrakhan film Aida based on story, screenplay and dialogue by Abbas Younes and Fathy Neshati and starring Om Kolsum as Aida. Plot summary: Aida was a village girl and her father Mohammad Effendi [Abdel Waress Assar] was a poor man who worked the fields owned by Amin Basha [Abbas Fares]. Amin had a son named Sami [Ibrahim Hammooda] working on a bachelor's degree, but he did not complete his studies. The Basha had a daughter Aida's age named Soraya. Mohammad Effendi was murdered on the estate when he was on his way to work. Aida got her bachelor's degree the same day. She and the Basha's son fell in love, but this angered the Basha. However she encouraged Sami to complete his studies; when the Basha saw Aida's importance in the life of his son he allowed them to marry.

As his doubts grew he began to think his two daughters might be from another man. He began to treat them harshly and took up drinking and gambling to forget. This caused him to lose all his money and his factories. His daughters ran away from home. He then realized his wife was innocent when he found a letter that had been written to his wife's sister. He regretted his behavior and tried to repair the damage he had done to his daughters and recover his lost fortune. He succeeded in doing this and the family's wounds were healed.

This is is a 27" x 39" stone lithograph poster designed by an unknown artist to promote the 1945 102-minute Niazi Mostafa black-and-white film Rabha starring Kouka based on a story by Mahmoud Taymoor with screenplay by Niazi Mostafa, dialogue by Bayram El Tounsi and cinematography by Mohamed Abdel Azim. Plot summary: Rabha, a pretty girl from a Bedouin tribe, came to the aid of a boy from the city who was injured when he fell off his galloping horse on a hunting trip, and the two of them fell in love. Her tribe had made arrangements for her to marry her cousin, but on the night she was supposed to do that she eloped with the city boy. Rabha could not enjoy her married life because she was afraid of her tribe and knew they would not forgive her for eloping. However when the tribe learned the city boy was also of Bedouin extraction they forgot about what had happened and celebrated the marriage.

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster made by an unknown designer to promote the 1957 Kamal El Sheikh film Love and the Death Penalty [hob wa eedam] starring Imad Hamdi and Samira Ahmed based on story and dialogue by Mohammad Kamel Hassan with cinematography by Abdel Aziz Fahmy. Plot summary: Samira [Samira Ahmed] prepared to move to her marriage home, but she was short of funds and found herself unable to finish the job. She asked her father Abdel Hamid [Abbas Fares] for a loan one day while he was playing cards with his mistress Soad [Aida Halal] and her brother Morsi [Mahmoud El-Meliguy]. Samira got into a debate with her father but in anger he said "you are not my daughter." Samira left his home shouting "it is better for someone like that to die!" Morsi heard her say this and got the idea of killing the father and blaming the daughter. Morsi planned the crime carefully and invited Samira to pay a quiet visit to her father. Then he poisoned the father and put him to sleep. Samira came in and left her fingerprints everywhere, leaving the corpse and her handbag behind when she left. Samira was accused of the murder. Her husband the attorney Magdi [Imad Hamdi] saw a newspaper with bold headlines condemning Samira and tried to get her exonerated, but was unable to to do so and she was sentenced to death at the trial. In a happy ending, Samira was spared execution on the morning she was scheduled to die because of a last-minute disclosure of the real facts of the crime in surprise testimony by the murderer's sister, Soad.

The Law of the Jungle (1950) - (Farid Shawqi) Egyptian one-sheet

This is a picture of an undated Egyptian rerelease poster printed by the Arab Cinema Printers to promote the 1950 103-minute Hassan Al Imam black-and-white film Law of the Jungle [hokm al-'awi] starring Farid Shawqi based on a screenplay by Hassan Al Imam with dialogue by El Sayed Bedeir. Cinematography was by Francois Farkas; the film was produced by the Nehas Film Company. Plot summary: Medhat Abel Nabi was an engineer who owned a factory with his partner Qasem. The two of them were opposites ethically. Qasem did not know the meaning of friendship and he preferred the company to Medhat, who had become its sole owner. Qasem lived for pleasure and lost all his money gambling. After that he met a rich man and deluded him about a project that would supposedly make an enormous amount of money after implementation, but the wealthy man learned the truth about Qasem and that he was really just a swindler. He refused the project Qasem was offering. They quarreled and the rich man was killed. Qasem was accused of the crime but in a deception he pinned the accusation on Medhat, who was then arrested and condemned to death. However in the end the truth was discovered, Medhat was found innocent and the real perpetrator received his punishment.

This is a 27" x 39" undated rerelease Egyptian poster designed by Ahmed Fouad for the 1949 Hussein Fawzi film Bread and Salt written and directed by Hussein Fawzi with dialogue by Badei Khayri and starring Naima Akef as Botheina. Plot summary: A boy lived in the Bread and Salt neighborhood and worked for one of the rich people. He loved the girl next door, who reciprocated, but she suddenly changed, turned away from his love and behaved in a disagreeable way that was unlike the warm nature of the Bread and Salt neighborhood. The boy criticized her behavior but it became clear that she was turning away because of her special family circumstances; here the people in the neighborhood were working together to overcome the problems she was facing. However they were unable to help her and she ran away from the neighborhood to work in a nightclub. The boy was having problems at his job with the rich man, who had blind faith in him. People were trying to create a division between the two of them. The people in another neighborhood were trying to prove that the boy was upright and honest, and the girl came back to stand by her neighbor. Conditions improved and the boy went back to his job with reputation restored. Conditions also improved with the girl's family so they ended up getting married.

All's Well (1950) - (Naima Akef) Egyptian one-sheet

In this film Naima Akef plays the part of a dancer named Amal who with her father, an obscure musician, finds a sachel filled with money. The two of them encounter many comic obstacles returning their find to its owner. They lived in a neighborhood of drums and horns whose neighbors got no respite from the music lovers with their noise, love affairs and rivalries over positions in a dance troupe.

The father knew that Amal knew a woman named Elham who was the owner of the satchel; they were to go together to return the satchel to Elham, hoping she would help them confront Boss Balabel to discuss a problem. However Elham had suddenly left the country for London. There was a relationship between the first actor in the Balabel troupe and Elham's husband. She threatened to expose this relationship and demanded a huge amount of money to keep the secret. After that Amal became the first actress in Balabel's troupe. A love relationship developed between Balabel and Hosny, the son of the chief of the troupe, who thought Balabel was under his father; she tried to go back to his family but Amal demonstrated that she was already there. The film was directed by Hussein Fawzi, cinematography by Very Varkash. This is one of the best posters for the late Naima Akef (7 October 1929 - 23 April 1966), considered by many to have been Egypt's best dancer.
